Ebay tire review: Achilles ATR Sport

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just wanted to post a review that might be helpful for anyone looking for some cheap tires that are also a good buy. In the past 4 years I have run Pirelli P Zeros, Conti sports and the last set was pilot sport II's. I can usually get a set to last a year but was going broke buying 19's almost every year.

I do not autocross nor do I drag race. I drive my car back and forth everyday to work and occasionally take road trips. I tell you this because I can not evaluate these tires for any other purposes. I can only tell you what these tires are like to live with day to day.

    The car: 2002 A4 Quattro 1.8t, APR stage 2+.

I bought the tires on ebay from uswheeloutlet for $480 including shipping. I was paying almost $300 a tire for the other brands. That is a pretty solid deal. Took them to Discount tire who mounted them for $80. They balanced out incredibly well requiring minimal weight. Far less that the PS2's that came off. I was originally running 235/35/19 but went down to 225/35/19 due to the poke I have. I was experiencing very minor rubbing on the left rear when people were in the back seat and the fronts would rub on tight turns while hitting a bump. My rims are 19X8.5 with 27mm offset in the front and 24mm offset in the rear. A little bit of poke. Going down a size solved any rubbing issue I had.

Now the review. These tires so far have been great. I was most interested in these tires due to a tread wear rating of 400. I had hoped they would outlast the PS2's that had a tread wear rating of 220. They are extremely quiet on the road and handle great. In the dry they do not feel any different that any of the other tires I have had and the same can be said for the wet. So far so good. They were a little squirming on an icy morning but they didn't slip at all. It is just a bit of an uneasy feeling to feel the car squirming under you. It made me nervous expecting to break traction but it never did. I have some 16 inch blizzaks that I run in the winter so I do not so much care about winter conditions with these tires but I don't think I would trust them in the snow. For the price, I am not sure they can be beat. I am extremely satisfied and wanted anyone else who was curious to have my unbiased review.

Ran those tires as well on my 19" RS6 wheels. Handled great, didnt like the Road noise at first. Took a few hundred miles for the tires to wear in, after that no other problems with them.
I also have a set on my wifes MKV GLI - fwd and these tires are a NO GO FOR WINTER CONDITIONS. I thought they would be alright but when it snowed this year we took my Avant.

just because a tire is expensive, doesnt mean its the best. you should have looked into name brand tires like hankook, kumho, or falken. hankook ventus v12 evos are only i believe $570 or so SHIPPED from discounttiredirect.com in 225/35/19 and they have cheaper name brand tires than that too. i would never cheap out on tires as badly as you did and buy some brand noone has ever heard of. just my $0.02 though.

Thank you for the lecture but your $0.02 is neither wanted or needed. I don't even know why you would bother to chime in on this post when it clearly doesn't apply to you. This was simply a review on a tire that I thought I would try out and pass on my opinion in case anyone was interested.

Been using these tires for 2+ years now. Great everyday tires!! Like it was said before.. a lil noisy at first but my music is always on the louder side anyway. I know Sam (7speed) ran these for a while too. Im on my second set.

    P.S. They stretch great too.

sorry did i hurt your e-feelings?

for fucks sake, this is a public forum where people post opinions and information. i was not only positing my opinion on the topic you started, but also informing those who are less informed that you can get a better tried and true tire that has a decent name behind it, for not much more than what you paid. sorry if im telling you that you wasted your money (again, and again, and again for that matter) but the truth hurts sometimes!

Let's start with your initial statement. First you say "expensive doesn't mean better". Taking that logic, less expensive doesn't mean worse. I guess you negated yourself right there. Second you say "I would never cheap out and buy something no-one has ever heard of. Well guess what champ, just because you have never heard of it really has no bearing on the item in question. I am sure there are brands in Europe that you have never heard of so they must be shit because you don't know about them? Someone has to bite the bullet, think outside the box and try things that people like you are afraid to do. I have no qualms on saving money and I don't need name brand status to feel good. I bit the bullet a tried it and am so far satisfied. Apparently a few others have tried these too and seem satisfied so did they waste their money too?

"expensive doesnt mean better" i was talking about you spending $300 per tire. which is not needed at all. you can get a good tire for ~ $150ea. ive had many customers COMPLAIN about their $300 tires being too loud, not having good traction, etc.

and "champ"...i have heard of these tires, because ive seen them on ebay. try to find them in an automotive facility that sells tires. youll be hard pressed. and theres a reason for that. you people take shit too litterally on here. obviously when i say "nobody" i dont litterally mean NO FUCKING SINGLE PERSON. because theres always going to be somebody who knows about something. i guess i should have said "not many" or "hardly anyone"

and once again with the europe bullshit, youre taking shit too litterally and stretching my words.

Someone has to bite the bullet, think outside the box and try things that people like you are afraid to do. I have no qualms on saving money and I don't need name brand status to feel good.
so youd rather cheap on on the only thing that connects your car to the road, possibly putting not only yourself in danger, but other motorists and possible friends and family in your car? cool. let me know where youre driving so i can stay away. to me cheaping out on tires not many people have heard of with no real reviews or tests (do these things even have speed ratings?) is like playing russian roullette. sorry to get your panties all in a bunch CHAMP. i was just stating MY OPINION, on a PUBLIC FORUM. just because i dont agree with youre decisions doesnt mean you have to get all defensive. if you want to risk it, risk it. like i said just let me know where youre driving so i can stay away.

    /useless arguement

EDIT: i will correct myself here, apparently they do have a W speed rating which SUPPOSIBLY means these tires are safe up to 168MPH, but to me thats laughable considering theyre only sold on ebay and from what i can find, sketchy tire/wheels websites for some pocket lint and an old coupon. also to clarify, when i said "real reviews" i meant by a company...not the bullshit reviews you see people posting on tirerack and other tire sites...because lets be honest, 80% of these people posting reviews dont know what the fuck theyre talking about when it comes to tires or cars for that matter.

****--Just goes to prove ...there's always a know-it-all around who actually knows very little and doesn't care if he looks like an ass to everyone else. I read all of these comments about these tires and decided to buy these tires, and I'm GLAD I DID. They are good tires at any price. They handle well AND ride just as well or better than the Goodyears that we took off of our Mustang GT. In fact, the Fedex driver who delivered them said he liked them and asked where we got them. He also said that other people on his route saw them since they were right inside the door of his box truck and you couldn't miss them when he openned the door and many people commented on them (all good).....No product-good or bad is instantly going to be available all over the world, but that does NOT make it a lousy product. I recall when I was a kid that there was one product that was not available in alot of places, in fact it started out only being available in one small place and pretty cheap too. They call it a Big Mac and it's available all over the world now and pretty popular too. In fact, I'd bet you've sucked down your share of them yourself.

By the way Double Zero (IQ?) there is no such word as "supposibly" it's "supposedly" --not so bright for someone who acts like he knows everything! Maybe you can edit that out so you just come off as an ass and not a stupid one.

Nate was only making constructive criticism...making recommendations saying you should consider other tires as a tire that is not reviewed is more hazardous because its not backed by any large tire retailer...and no known testing except the end user.

It's not a matter of "saving money", or "stepping out of the box". It's a matter of safety, and the importance of tires. I can understand sometimes people are on a budget, but no need to be disrespectful and rude when everyone is just stating an opinion.

Good for you. What dealer? I am still loving these tires. I cannot tell the difference between these and the pirelli zeros or the pilot sport 2's I had.
