Unhappy How do you open the fuel door from the outside? humm....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
(B7 S4) I've tried unlocking all the doors and pressing every corner, but can't get the fuel door to open from the outside. It opens perfectly fine from the inside of the car. I tried searching, but couldn't come up with anything. According to the owner's manual, it's supposed to open from the outside.

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

It only opens when the car is off and on park.

I haven't read the manual, but I'm not sure I see how this is possible from the outside. Doesn't the button inside the driver's side door release the fuel door electronically? If it does how would you invoke the release from outside the car?

I would agree that there should (and probably is) be a way to open it in the event that the car has no power.

Isn't the B7 the same as a b6 door? there is a little pin that slides out and locks in the door. When you unlock the car, the pin moves out of the way and you can open the door.

If it doesnt work, then the actuator that moves the pin probably shit the bed. In which case you need to open your trunk, and then manually unlock the door. to do this, find the little circle plug on the right side of the trunk opening. pull the cover out and you will see the bolt that holds in the taillight. There will also be a red cord that you can pull to override the actuator. you will need to replace the actuator obviously

I've tried it with the car off and in gear (manual). For example, on BMWs you just press-in the fuel door and it pops open.... it's no big deal, but it'd be convenient to be able to open it from the outside.

    Thanks,

It's really weird, it opens fine from the inside, which means that the actuator is probably okay….

I am having an issue with mine but a little different than yours. My release button on the door doesn't work but when i unlock the car with the remote it pops the fuel door open. Anybody else having this problem or know what the problem may be? It is a pain to keep having to shut the door everytime i unlock the car.

b6's and b7's are different. b6 you just have to have the doors unlocked, and b7's you have to press the fuel door release that is located on the drives door.

Yeah, 2 ways that I know of to open it on a B7

The switch on the drivers door

Pulling apart your trunk and manually releasing it

You have to hit the button on the driver's door to release the lock on the gas door. You cannot open if from the outside without hitting that button. If the actuator isn't working you have to take apart the right side interior of the truck to get at it manually.

oh no, the actuator is working and it does open fine from the inside. I was just trying to see if it was possible to open it from the outside. I recall seeing something in the manual. I'll have to check. I'll let you guys know what I find.

I upgraded to a B7 S4 after a B6 A4 and I don't know how many times I got out of the car went to the pump only to realize I have to go back to the driver door to hit the switch for the fuel door... On the b6 all you had to do was to unlock the doors with the remote and push the fuel door by hand at the corner to open it...

    Fuel door release

    Something is off here.

A friend has a B6 S4 and the fuel door simply has a pin that locks and unlocks with the car doors. If it's unlocked, you just push the right side and it swings open.

I have a B7 A4 (Avant). The fuel door latch is much different. It no longer has a pin but rather a spring loaded latch. If the door is closed and you press the release from the inside, the latch pulls in momentarily and the spring pops the door open only a few mm. You pretty much still have to push on the right side of the door to fully open it.

Now the part that i don't get is that my fuel door latch is being activated EVERYTIME i unlock my doors. From the remote, inside door unlock button, even when i remove the key from the ignition. I don't think this is factory setup.

To my knowledge this only started after i had the drivers door window regulator replaced at the dealer (warrenty).

To bad my owners manual is in french! :(

Anyone know what the proper function is for a B7???

What sucks even more is where the button is located on the B7. Really?

My B7... i need to use the button on my driver's door.
My B5 A4... i can flip the lid directly by pressing the right side of the lid, as long as the car is unlocked. < like this better.

My gas cap latch on my B7 actually broke a few weeks ago, I pulled the mechanism out and just push the door to the right when I need to fill up now. Need to get that fixed though, don't really like that my gas door can be opened by anyone ...
