NJ new inspection law emissions only... Will I pass with tint?

Has anyone been to the inspection station with tinted windows or tail lights and passed. I know it specifically says emissions only now but I wanted to see if I could find some confirmation. I have a tint appointment coming up shortly for my windows and tail lights but I do not have the plates for my car in yet. Don't think I can get inspected with a dealer plate and my car will most likely be tinted before I get my plates in.

So of the three options:

1. I can get inspected with tinted windows and tail lights because it is solely emissions when I get my plates in.

2. I can get inspected with a NJ dealer plate before my tint goes on.

3. ( If option 2 & 3 are out ) Although the new law says emissions only they are still giving people problems and I need to find a private facility.

4. Or I could just reschedule my tint appt but if I don't have to I don't want to.

Open all your windows when you go for inspection. You should be fine.

emissions only... that should answer your question.. cops will give tickets for tints. but you still get a sticker if you have tints from the inspection stations. you dont need a private place unless you wont pass for other reasons.

i went in my s4 with tints, no rear mufflers, bald tires. and passed with no problem.

edit- and dont tint your tails., thats a 16 year old thing.. along with black wheels with a chrome lip. gayer then a french horn

They check tints and roll your windows up if u have your windows down..Fronts are illegal rear windows are only legal in NJ..

not any more, starting i think it was like june or something 2010, nj is emissions only. they dont care about anything else. as long as you pass emissions your good.

the motorcycles one makes me soooooo happy! Not like it was hard to pass anyways...i have all sorts of shit on my busa and they passed me anyways...the guy that did my inspections at the DMV in washington nj ownered a busa and let me roll thru no problem! doesnt look like ill be having one at all now!!!!

remains to be seein...he works out of a speed shop in fairfield nj...ill hit him up later tonight and see what he can do...hes kinda sketchy about it but ill just tell him ur a good friend of mine and hell prob be cool about it

i actually work in Fairfield. Well my job travels me to go there every week. I'll PM you my number. If he is sketchy about the whole thing, its cool at least we tried. if he's cool with it. Beer on me :)

It no longer matters if you have a CEL as long as you pass NJ state emission standards.

let us know (or at least let me know :)) i have an s4 avant that i picked up in Texas. It's got tints all around and i'm due for an inspection soon as i get my plates.. I'd like to know if they gave you any trouble.

I got my windows tinted in the Bronx on Jerome Ave right off i95 after the GWB for $100 all-around (minus the front windshield). There are various shops located on that strip that do window tints and you can always look for the price that's right with you - most even come with lifetime warranty.

For all the skeptics - I've had my windows tinted since Dec 2006 (one of my first modifications) and they are still in great shape. No fading or peeling whatsoever.

Stopped by this one shop and they stopped selling 50% cause noone was doing it....the other 4 shops within 20mins of me wanted $200+ to do all the windows (except windshield). Looks like I'll be getting them done up north or in Bklyn when the time comes.

sorry for reviving such an old thread, but i just had my car inspected at the freehold dmv. car is in great working order no codes, had one issue with a code when i first got the car and have since resolved the problem (was a p000a code just replaced the camshaft position sensor and its been fine since). anyway that is the least of my troubles right now, failed emissions inspection because the said my car has no catalytic converter, but i am 110% sure that is not true. exhaust setup is rai 3" downpipe with HFC and apr catback exhaust. anyone ever have any issues like this?

edit: the PO passed ny state inspection with the same setup last year. car is a b7 with K04 setup.

. DMV said no catalytic converter? Did they do a visual inspection. Most KO4 tunes delete the rear 02 sensor that will trigger a cel and under-performing converter. I would try a different DMV inspection station. I passed with no problems even with 1 failed of 4 readiness tests

Yupp, popped my hood and everything, all they had to say was, " uhh our computer says you don't have one so you fail" they even had the nerve to sit there and rev my engine in the inspection bay and then say to me "yeah you hear that, that's what a car without a cat sounds like" Pretty unprofessional if you ask me
