I'd still go to the dealer and ask them to check the muffler bearings.
If it was beat on past 5000 rpm's they tend to get hot and get overheated easily.

Edit: S-Tronic - go see the dealer.

Does it smell like burnt newspaper? If so, then you probably glazed the clutch disk slightly. As long as the smell goes away and there's no loss of power then you're fine. If you don't like that burning smell then make sure you're not slipping the clutch at high (>4500) RPM. If it happens a lot and you aren't slipping the clutch intentionally or accidentally, bring it back to the dealer and ask them to check the transmission synchros.

My 2010 S4 actually had a problem at about 2500 miles where I would get that smell no matter how careful I was when shifting. Audi ended up keeping my car for about 5 weeks while they replaced the entire tranny before the center differential because the engineers were baffled by the problem.

When will owners learn that waiting until the car has 1500K or 1000 miles to take the engine over 5k is just not good or the right thing to do to a new engine. Now that I have vented, the smell could be from oil, coolant or clutch. Probably nothing bad. PLEASE!!!! run the engine WOT(gas pedal to the floor) to the red line MORE THAN ONCE, followed by engine braking(let the car cost back to speed in gear without using the brake pedal) and try to get the piston rings to seat ASAP before it is too late and you end up with a car that consumes more oil than it should. You need to do this multiple times/day for the next week or so. I assure you, that if you take the car to the red line, NOTHING unusual or bad will happen. You've been babying this engine too long.

I can't explain the smell, but im sure its not like burnt newspaper. it only happen once, and its gone after like 3 seconds.
i did a research and most people said its just the engine overheating due to high rpm.
Thank You for you advice. it really helpful. so DSG is different than 6MT for the fact?

this could be true becuz i never went to red line. i did a soft break in, not hard.

Could you have sucked up a plastic grocery store bag that is melting on the exhaust? I've had this happen before and it is definitely a burning smell that goes away pretty quickly after you shut down the engine. Eventually it goes away as it melts off...the high speed runs Dr GP will help burn this off if that is what is causing the smell.

GUYS GUYS GUYS. We know that muffler bearing only fail at 8k RPMS. the smell coming from under the hood MUST be from low BLINKER fluid. Check that, top it off and you should be all set!
    Best regards,
    Sean.

Yep, like the others said, if it were a 6MT clutch is a very distinctive odor, every enthusiast will smell it from time to time, the main rule is not too often or you will need a clutch job.

Firm believer in both a hard break-in and regular thrashing. It's good for the girl, she was built for it.
My a4 is a prime example 106k miles of what some might call "abuse" and she burns no oil and does everything better than new.

Get out there and drive the car like it was built to be driven.
