They take the OEM shafts and put brand new, high quality inner and outer CV joints on it. Ship it to you and all you have to do is put the old one in the box and send it back. No upfront core charge. Really good guys. Most of the other stuff you see online or at the autoparts store is cheap Chinese crap.

    Tx quattro004.
I just surfed and realized that it will be about $175 for one axle @ raxles.com. I was wondering what if I change the outer CV joint? The difficulty in deciding amongst this comes from the fact that the CV joint boot is perfectly intact and has no leaks of grease but the car does make clicking noise when turning to the left. The ball joints are good. A local mechanic told me that my axle is bad whereas I think its the outer CV joint! How to differentiate b/w those?
To make things more complicated, the car has 130k and the CV joints have never been changed for the past 70k mi.

After dealing with the aftermarket chinese axles, I switched to Raxles and will never grab anything but a raxle's axle. Marty does top notch work.

Go to your local advanced auto and get the axle through them. It costs like $80 and comes with a LIFETIME warranty.

BTW as far as quality goes, I make a decent amount of torque, and launch occasionally, and have not broken them yet.

Just buy the CV and replace it.

Why change the whole shaft when you just need to replace the joint?

Because just replacing the CV is a pain in the ass and costs almost as much as just replacing the whole axle. The axle is only $80 and comes with a lifetime warranty so if the CV boot even tears they will replace it. Just replacing the CV makes no sense.

So, I got a reman axle . Now, Do I have to put on any grease at the axle end before I insert it into the wheel bearing housing. (I know that CV joints are already packed and sealed)

CV's are the parts that move/join so they obviously need grease, just a real thin coating on the outer splines to make them slide in nice and your good to go if the inners came pre packed.
