Jack stands under control arm safe?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey fellas, just a quick question. For our car, is it safe to put the jack stands (two of them, both at front, two spare wheels to the rear) under control arm instead of jack point provided by audi manual? I just sold my wheels and there is this "off time" while i'm getting new wheels, i don't know if it hurts anything by putting stands under arms for like 1+ weeks.

If explanation is not good enough, i'll get u some pics soon later today.

    TIA

    Pics...:

    And an overview :D

I would NOT rest my car on jack stands under suspension arms. I sometimes put a jackstand under the A-arm with no weight on it as a safety in case the jack fails, but that's because I am worth more than the car. Factory jack points or solid points on the frame.

alright, mission tonight: change stand point. I know where jack points are, but what would be solid points on the frame for our car?

I throw jack stands under the control arms, but it still allows the springs to compress again and it isn't the safest spot. I only do it for a quick safety measure, but not if I'm doing work under the car for more than 5 minutes
    Ignorance is bliss.

oh i'm not working under it at all. It just sits there for couple days to wait for new wheels to come in. I just worry that it's gonna hurt the control arm. No?

It won't hurt the control arm, but it isn't the safest or most stable of places either. Personally I would have done it the other way around, put the tires on the front and stands in the rear. There are a few more spots for the stands to go in the rear, and a lot less weight back there.

If you look under the car near the mounting points of the A arms (back side of front tire) there is a reinforced junction
behind the A arm pivot, where a jack stand will fit, if carefully placed.

Shouldve posted here prior to taking off the wheel =( The buyer came to pick the wheels up with a floor jack and they did the job real quick while i was even reading the manual for a proper point, so by the time i asked, they said "oh a-arm's fine"... Now that i have no floor jack anymore and i feel super unsafe to take off rear wheels while the car stands on 2 stands and one scissor jack. I originally decided to put them in the front cuz i was thinking maybe it's better that rear wheels have e-brake.

Do you mean the junction where A arms connect to the wheel side or to the body frame side in the way back? I guess i can easily adjust this way. Maybe tonight ;p

As a new Audi owner, this is a good thread. All other cars I've worked on always had a central front and rear jacking point and you put the jack stands on the seam welds. This is not he case with Audi and so this topic comes up all the time. Usually, the best place is to put it on the subframe where the suspension arms attach.
