EFR 7670 for ME! and other A4 Content Inside!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just a few days ago I took the lunge and swiped the card (so to speak) and pre-ordered a BorgWarner EFR 7670 .92a/r internally wastegated twin scroll T4 turbo. With the high boost wastegate actuator, geez thats a mouth full!
I am very excited to get it and get it rolling, I most likely wont be the first to do some pulls on it because I'm 8,000 miles away from it right now. Should be home in November and thats when construction will start.

I will also be running the Full_Race Twin Scroll tubular exhaust mani along with the 3" downpipe to match.

I just wanted to post over here and say that I am tired of Vortex's 1.8t forum and have lost all faith. So now I am posting over here.

My goals for this turbo is for it to take my A4 into the 10s and 550+awhp.

Its gonna be a fun street car!

I am sure I will have alot of questions on what parts to get and questions about this part vs that part. I will save that for when the time gets closer and i start buying the parts that i need to support my build.

Just trying to have a little discussion. If youhave any questions for me or the car/build throw em my way!

Take care. Once i get back I will start a build thread!

Sounds like it will be quite the interesting build, you can find a lot of part vs part threads, just search.....trying to save you from getting flamed out by other people on here who are like god why don't you use the search first lmfao. but yeah keep us posted

Congats. I wonder how you even knew about the manifold seeing that Full-Race doesn't even have it on their site. LOL

You should start seeing people posting pictures of the Full-Race manifold and EFR setups in the next few months.

The manifolds come out off the production line in the next few weeks and the first shipment of TS EFR's also start coming in at that time.
Only thing that sucks is the fact that there is about 8-12 weeks between production runs of the TS EFR's. So those that did not order one off the first shipment wont be able to get one for another 2-3 months.

Ahh its not that big, i will be pushing it to the limits to get what i want out of it. Mike Hood is doing the next bigger one, a 8374 i beleive. I will make a build thread with everything, alot of stuff is still unknown at this time. It will all start falling together sometime in July hopefully. So keep your eyes out for my build thread!

There will be tons of pics taken! I can promise you that. I regret that with my other builds i never took enough pictures.

I just wanted to make it known to everyone that may be interested in getting an EFR they come with a mild(17-18psi max) wastegate actuator so be prepared to add another $60+ dollars to get the high boost(30+psi) wastegate actuator

i can not wait so see some numbers out of this turbo. i cant imagine that much power out of a 1.8t. 300 seems like plenty for me for now ha. that power band has got to be so hard to control once boost actually hits! what is your head built to?

I actually think the powerband will be alot better then you might think. I am expecting 20psi by 4000rpm and 30 sub 5000. So it will pull to the moon!
The head will be built to take 10,000+ rpms but i will not take it past 9000-9200 unless its an accident (oooops!!!)
300 was so when i was 18 (im 20 now)
plus quattro makes it so much more fun! and managable

Cant wait to see videos. I can rev to 8500rpm, but rarely shift past 7200ish as past 7500 is really hard to get into the next gear for me for some reason... i must be doing something wrong ha.

Edit: Not to mention my turbo falls off the map at like 6800

I can't wait to see how your project turns out! I'm insanely jealous that you're going to be running a EFR. I would totally pick one up, if I didn't already have the Billet PTE 6262

Just wondering, what sort of tune or ECU(if standalone) you're gonna run?

I would assume you're gonna run 1k cc injectors? Injector dynamics or other brand?

Also if anyone is interested in getting a EFR. Be advised that the Vband discharge off the exhaust housing is not the standard vband and if you plan to make your own dp you will need the GTvband for them to match up correctly

Alright well I am seeking the help and insight of the forum members now. I am trying to debate if i should go with a 600 or 750hp precision intercooler core. I plan to run water/meth, so that will help. But for my goal of 550 on pump i dont know if the 600 will be enough. Thoughts or other intercooler suggestions?

So you got the Ex Mani on order. What turbo you gonna be running? Intercooler you have planned?

Also on the CFM thing: I learned somthing new today.

***If you are trying to convert a lb/min number from a compressor map to cfm, then you are using nontypical values, which is why the number is lower than expected. 15 psi gauge, or 15 psi boost = 29.7 psia, which is not what you have at the compressor inlet! Turbonetics maps are done assuming a standard inlet pressure of 13.949 psia (about 1.5" Hg vacuum) and 85F. At these conditions your 36 lb/min of air flow = 520 cfm...just to emphasize, don't forget about the compressible nature of air. The *mass* flow of air (ie the lb/min) doesn't change from turbo inlet to turbo outlet to intake manifold. You can't destroy mass. The *volume* of that mass of air changes as it gets compressed by the turbo and then cooled by an intercooler. So the cfm goes down from turbo suction to discharge to intercooler outlet, while the lb/min stays the same for all 3 spots. ***
    **-dsmtuners.com

So now I know and hopefully somebody else knows for future reference.

The FMIC's are usually rated slightly lower then wha tthey can actually handle. Just like my 800hp Garrett core can handle a good amount more then that.

So if your looking to make 550chp on pump, then a 600hp core should be plenty.

Ran a ER Comp on a B6 pushing nearly 600chp and that fmic uses a 600hp Garrett core.

I will also be running water/meth as well so that will help alot with the cooling aspect. But i dont want the intercooler to not be able to handle the flow rate of the turbo. So i think that i will need to make sure that i get a turbo that can handle the flow of the 7670 (roughly around 1000cfm i figure)
Precision does not list what there intercoolers flow on there website, so i need to find that out

I was looking at the Treadstone intercoolers and they look to be well designed; looking at the TR1045 and the TR12. Thoughts? Both flow greater than or equal to 1000cfm

I am sure they use a Garrett core or something equal to that. So just look up the core size on Garrett web site.
Their 600 kit uses a 24x8x3.5 core, Garrett also offers that core and rates at 600hp. Garrett also has this listed under their list of cores.
    * Horsepower rating shown for nominal operating conditions. Maximum horsepower potential will be higher than the listed values
Be carefull on flow rates of cores. A cheaper core can have a much higher flow rate but that doesn't mean it will cool the air as well as a higher cost core that flow less.

I think that i am starting to lean more towards the treadsont tr1045 or the tr12. i like that they have mounting points on the side vs the top of the intercooler but most of all like that they have flange that directs more of the air to the top of the intercooler. i am still on the hunt though and any input is greatly appreciated

Also, who else is running ID1000's ? I'm interested to see what exactly they changed via meastro with the highZ injectors.

LOL I think you're going to fall short of the full potential of this turbo. But still using a lot of it.

Example. There is a EFR-6758 open scroll Cobalt SS/T... 540whp on a mustang dyno through a 49 lb/min turbo .. Thats only rated for 300-490hp by BW.
THAT SAID, the guy says they werent even maxing it out lol.. NUTS !

The 7670 is rated at 400-650hp by BW. I think with the right setup and tune we'll see this thing pump around 700whp. I predidct the EVO/STI crown is going to prove this very soon, they love maxing out the smallest turbo possible for max hp. 7670 700awhp EVO's are coming.. I can smell it!

Well you also have to take into account that car is direct injection and also FWD.

I will have to agree with 16plus4v on that, from the looks of it and doing some little math judging off the numbers it looks to be a good prediction but only time will tell. These turbo's look like they are going to live up to the hype and thats great news for those of us that will have them!
