S-Line/Sport Package offerings on the B7 questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi everyone, I currently sold my S4 and am looking at picking up a B7 A4. I am confused however on what years offered a real sport package. I see a ton of Special Edition S Line models for sale but those are just cosmetics, no seat changes and no suspension.

Is there a DTM package that was offered on the A4 like the current B7 S4 "Exterior Sport Package"?
What do I need to look for in order to get sport seats, suspension, and exterior enhancements?

Was this change from S4 to A4 out of necessity??? I would kill to have that car. I apologize for not being much help otherwise. I like my car to be a sleeper, so I dont do much externally, besides wash it

From what I understand, all '08 models were labeled "Sline" and had the sline grille, but to know if the car is equipped with the Sline package you gotta look for the steering sline tagged wheel, sport suspension, etc. I don't know about the '05.5 - '07 model years because I have an '08 SE model equipped with Sline package.

Between 2005.5 and 2007 there was a Non S-Line and a true S-Line (exterior upgrades, interior upgrades, and sport suspension) offered. In 2008 they replaced the Non S-Line with a SE (or Special Edition) which had the exterior upgrades of the S-Line but no interior upgrades or sport suspension. There was also a true S-Line offered in 2008 which again also included exterior upgrades, interior, sport susp.

S-Line's never got upgraded seats from their Non S-Line counterparts.

Sport/S-Line Package was available as a separate option on all years (2005.5-2008) for the North America B7 A4. It is only for the MY2008 that things got messy. In MY2008, all A4's got the external cosmetic portions (front & rear valence, door blades that are slightly smaller than the S4 ones, roof spoiler on Avant).

If you added the 2008 Sports package, like I did on my Avant, then the extras added were
    • 18" 5 spoke alloys, 235/40/18 tires - think this was the old RS6 style
    • 3 spoke sports steering wheel - perforated leather
    • RS4 metal pedals - I have manual transmission
    • S-Line door sills (front and rear) - open doors and you will see them
    • Sports suspension (20mm lower than stock)
    • RS4 leather gear knob (round ball)
    • Satin finish aluminium interior trim (stock is patterned)

Have some photos at link above.

Titanium package added black trim/headliner and different rims.

    Thanks guys!

So it looks like for upgraded seats I have to go to the B8 A4?

I can't come out of Recaros into the stock A4 seats, they just don't feel right.

    To get into upgraded seats you'd either have to jump to a B7 S4 or a B8 A4 S-Line.

Or if you're really set on the B7 A4, you could always just buy a set of Recaros (OEM or not) and retrofit them into it.

Not a problem, good luck on your search.

IMHO I'd probably look past the B7 A4, it may be a little underwhelming coming from the B6 S4. In fact, I'd probably look past the B7 S4 too, the jump from B6 S4 to B7 S4 probably won't be enough to justify the cost. Again, just my opinion.

The b6 and b7 are VERY similar, almost the same car. Hang onto the b6 or go b8 if you.need a change.

You are correct in that all 2008 models came with the S-Line exterior bodywork (same bumper covers and side blades as the S4). However, the SE models are separate from the base models. The differentiating factor is that the SE models come with the Y-Spoke wheels while the base models come with the familiar split spoke wheels.

Did some searching today at my local Audi dealership but they didn't have anything appealing. There was one super clean low mileage 08...but it was gray with gray interior, didn't like the lack of contrast.

I have 3 large dealerships within an hour of me so tomorrow I'll be making some calls...

I just put in paperwork on this car: http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/68701/1/a4?h=4920bb

It has the s-line badge but from what I have read that means nothing. I called and Audi dealership and asked them if it was just a badge or if it was actually an s-line. The women said that if it had the 5 arm split spoke wheels then yes, it is an s-line and it has the sport suspension.

I am inclined to believe her but from what I have read in here, true s-lines have the upgraded steering wheel. What confuses me though is that mine is a manual so it doesn't need the flappy padel shifters on the steering wheel.

Can someone tell just by looking whether this is a true s-line or not? And by that I mean, does it have upgraded suspension?

That A4 clearly does not have Sport Suspension, and those are the standard 17" Premium optioned wheels that I have on my '07.

yeah the 08 "true" S-lines have the rs6 style 18" 5 spokes not the split 5 spoke 17's.

Agreed - chassis is the same but the suspension components are different - believe there's a bit more of the stuff from the S4 and A6 added - calipers and control arms?

Do you guys think just under $21k with 35k miles and a clean carfax record is a good price then? As I said its a 6 speed manual.

    The B7 S4 has a 40/60 torque split rather than the traditional 50/50 on the B7 A4 and B6 A4/S4.

From the info under his avatar it looks like he got a B7 S4. NICE!
