I used an acid solution I use at work for cleaning beverage piping, it's a mix of phosphoric & nitric acid diluted 50% with water. Got 90% out though not all of the brown stuff came out of the baffles. I didn't want to soak it for too long as I thought it may eat away at the level sensor probe. BTW=A cheap way to get phosphoric acid is Behr concrete etcher at Home Depot, it's strong and works good at getting rust, scale off things if you don't happen to have drums of acid at your disposal. Worst case, $20 for a new one: Click

buy a bottle of coolant flush (8$) at any parts store. Dilute it into water 50/50. Remove your coolant tank, block the holes, fill with the solution, and let it sit for a half hour shaking it every few minutes. Got mine looking like brand new.
