Ok, so for the thermostat issue Audi offers to extend the powertrain warranty. For the waterpump issue, 3 benefits are given: extended power train warranty, audi care and loyalty incentives. Yea, received my letter today. It basically said they are aware my water pump had been replaced, and my thermostat will need to be done as well.
Also received the extended warranty. Not sure if thats supposed to make me feel good, or just acknowledges there may be more issues to look forward to.

Got my letter yesterday, already have the car at the dealer today and driving around a Nissan Versa loaner = ( They ran out of Audi's just before I got there...oh well, the S4 will be that much better when I get back in it tomorrrow.

Has anyone (especially those of you who've had overheat, or those with VAG to see engine oil temp get higher) ever seen the water temp gauge budge above the very middle at any point? wondering if it's really just an idiot light.

This is very common for temp gauges in cars these days. Non-linear readings that require overheating to move beyond dead center. My BMW reads the same way.

If you want to know more granularity on the engine temperature use the oil temp display (from the lap timer activation with VAGCOM).

The water temp gauge slowly rises to half and then just sits there, but oil temp keeps rising from the 145F (first shows at 145F) to some roughly steady
operation between about 212F & 226F.

Got my letter yesterday. No mention of extended warranty. I had the plastic water pump housing which was replaced late last year with a metal one. I called AoC to find out if I was eligible for extended warranty and was informed that there is nothing on my vehicle record to indicate that I would be provided extended warranty.

Made arrangements with my dealer for the work to be done on Tuesday. I will inquire with them to see if they know about the extended warranty.

Just dropped my car off this morning - I'm rocking a Chevy Malibu loaner! :-P

My SA seemed pretty knowledgeable and said that AOA didn't inform them that there was even going to be recall. They found out with (40) thermostats showed up and it took them by surprise because AOA usually does a phased roll-out - however, AOA sent all the letters at once. He also said that the water pump and thermostat issues go hand in hand. That there is an issue with the plastic WP, but that some people with metal WP that are going out the issue can be related to the thermostat.

As part of the thermostat RVU we replace the thermostat, the crankcase breather tube that connects to the bottom of the supercharger to the crankcase ventilation system, the six intake manifold gaskets, the three front coolant pipe seals, and the brake vacuum pump seal.

This is very common for temp gauges in cars these days. Non-linear readings that require overheating to move beyond dead center. My BMW reads the same way.

There is a buffer range for the coolant temp gauge to keep the gauge in the middle and avoid customer concerns. They did that because the older cars would read a little hotter than center when sitting in traffic and then go a little colder than center when you take off again from traffic or are driving down the highway.

I finally opened my letter after my thermostat was replaced and it did extend my powertrain warranty to 5yr/100k. Kinda sucks because I paid for an extended platinum 6yr/100k mile for like $3500 at purchase. Do you think I should be able to cancel my extended warranty and get my money back? The extended warranty they sold me is through a 3rd party.

To access the thermostat, you have to take the Supercharger off. Anytime you remove a part that has gaskets, it's common and ideal to replace those gaskets since they likely will never seal properly after replacing the part they were seated to; especially since these are in contact with parts that get exceedingly hot.

i have an extended warranty and also found out there an update on the mmi which should solve some problems with bluetooth and other known strange issues.
