Yes I searched. Here's the question, Can the dealer find out if my car is tuned???

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm new to the B7 A4 so I don't know much about it. I know I have my B8 S4 tuned by stasis which isn't a problem cause the car is new and covered by a 4year 50K warranty.

But my A4 is a COP car and has a 100K warranty, which I do not want to void warranty but I need a tune cause this car is way too slow.

So here's the question, can they find out if they plug my car in that it's tuned?

(sorry I don't know all that much about cars)

If you searched you would no your answer.

Yes they can if they want to find out if you don't put the stock settings back on before going. But i do know people who have gone to the dealership without putting their car back to stock and they have never said anything.

How can they tell? Besides the obvious speed increase??

Yes, the dealer can easily find out if your car is tuned. Even if you switch it back to stock, your dealer can still find out if it has been chipped before. I have the revo select switch, and always switch back to stock map anytime I go to the dealer. One time I took it in for an issue I had, and when I picked up my car, my service advisor said "even though your car is chipped, it was still covered under warranty because we don't think the chip had anything to do with it." All the dealer has to do is take a look at the boost logs to see the increased boost.

Gotcha. Maybe I'm better off just asking the service guy what he thinks. I have bought 4 Audi's from the same dealer over the past 4 years. I'd hope they'd be cool about it.

You should do some searching on homonyms...

In this case you should be using "know"

To answer your original question a bit further, if you switch back to the stock map, the dealer can't see that you've been chipped before by simply just plugging up to your ecu. They have to do a little digging around the ecu to see your previous boost logs. They usually don't do this, unless they're having trouble figuring out the problem. Now, if you stay on the chipped map and go to the dealer, then its very simple for them to figure out that you're chipped.

For what its worth, the dealer never gave me grief about my chip.

Unless the dealer can prove that the chip is what caused whatever failure you are trying to warranty, they cannot deny you service. I forgot the name of the law, but search - it's out there.

just be honest with your dealer, say im planning on modifying it, how do you feel about it? he will say he is okay with it or he will hate it

if he hates find another dealer, i can imagine chicago has more then a few audi dealers and one of them will want your business bad enough to be ok with it

i feel like hiding mods from the dealership is just asking for trouble

I just leave mine alone when i take it in. My dealer knows i'm chipped and it would be ignorant of me for them to not think that i wasn't when my car clearly has other mods done to it. Now granted, other mods doesn't necessarily = chipped, but they can find out if they wanted to.

If you're concerned about it, try finding out if they're a mod-friendly dealer. If they are then you're good to go, if not, find one that is.

Yes, they are pretty good with modded cars. I've taken mine to Schaumburg Audi and Mcgrath Audi in Glenview and they are totally against mods. Westmont has never given me any problems.

I know International Audi in Orland isn't. That's where I bought my S4, they tuned it put the exhaust on it. Hell I even tell them to go drive it when I bring it in. The Service mgr told me my B8 S4 is the fastest on they have had in. But they're far from my house.

Someone from Apr said that their ECU is completely locked when it is in stock mod and they shouldn't be able to see if it's chipped. Not sure about any other tuners though.

Just talked to APR they guarantee that there's no way they'll find out if you put it back in stock mode and clear the logs with VAG whatever that is. Now I have homework to do.

Just get at least a 2 program APR upgrade (stock and 91 or 93 octane, whichever gas you have available) Have the shop install the APR security lock out with a code you will remember. When dropping the car off at the dealership switch to stock mode and then activate the security lock out and you'll be 99.99% secure.

If Laurel Audi is going to be the main dealership you are going to be taking your car to then I wouldn't worry too much about being tuned.

That's good to know. It's only 5min from my house. Now just need to figure out the best tune for me. I was gonna do the staisis have it on my s4 and like it. Not too many reviews on it for the a4. Seem most people have the apr.

Dealer can check your boost logs and tell your chipped.

If you drive in slammed with a big fucking front mount its pretty damn obvious your chipped. If you drive in looking stock they have ZERO incentive to check it or assume otherwise.

Tell tales are a boost gauge, ride height, obvious engine mods. Intake Cone filter etc.

With the GIAC you just have to wipe the ECU clean. APR logs Flashes for good but GIAC does not. Plug it in and clear your flash log before you take it in and the dealer wont be able to find a thing. A friend wrecked his entire tranny on the track downshifting and they warrantied the whole thing at Strong Audi.
