    Custom exhaust for B8- ????

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Anyone attempt one yet? My A4 won't arrive until late May, but I've been poking around this forum for a while. I'm looking into the idea of running a single tuning exhaust element (ie muffler/resonator). I've done so successfully on both a Mini and Land Rover. Reduce weight, reduce parts, improve flow.

Would love to do a single can located under center of car w/ dual exhaust into quad pipes.

What's the typical catback piping diameter for B8 systems?

    Thoughts???

Our stock exhausts are 2.5 inch which is an increase from the previous years(2.25)...most after markets on the b5/b6/b7 are 2.5. IIRC the aftermarket units on the b8 are 3inches. I bypassed the last two mufflers on my avant and it sounds great. I'm thinking custom 3inch downpipe to one center resonator split to two 2.5inch straight pipes would be ideal for performance/sound. Good luck and let me know how it goes. I'll try to post a video of my setup sometime.

I just got a custom exhaust done on my A4 have a 3in down pipe and 1 central resonator with split 3in pipe to either side. Got 5.5 (wide) by 2.5 (high) tips. Sounds and looks amazing.

So I've decided on doing a custom exhaust. I'm new to this so I'd like to brain-dump what I've learned and plan to do. I'd really appreciate any comments or correction, esp if it seems like I'm going down an odd path.

Here's my understanding of the parts, from turbo to tips.
Cat: the most restrictive piece in the flow. the mother lode of performance improvement in the overall exhaust system.
Downpipe Resonator: cancels out low frequencies that contribute to drone. does not restrict flow very much.
Center Resonator: more or less just another resonator.
Muffler: keeps the noise down. more restrictive than a resonator.

    My Goal:
To improve performance and sportiness but still maintain the fine Audi balance of sport and luxury. I don't want to be loud, obnoxious or ricey. I'd like dual-exit single-tip rear for appearance; bonus points if that frees up the system more. I want to do it as inexpensively as possible while still doing it "right".

    My Plan:
    1) Eurocode HFC + strato-cat-90degree-spacer are on order. I'm going to have those installed first.

I want to hear the HFC. According to posts here, this shouldn't change the sound much with the stock system but I want to hear it myself before proceeding.

    2) Keep the resonators & piping but replace the muffler. Dual-exit single tip. Remus would be nice but too pricey and the tips are too big for my liking. Local custom exhaust shops seem to like magnaflow & flowmaster; depending on the sound with the hfc I'll probably go with 3 chamber mufflers on the ends; 2 chambers if I'm feelin ballsy.

    3) Back to Opelika for a Stage 2 APR update. I'd like to get a feel for the hfc, then the exhaust on their own before finishing it off properly with the tune.

It's a 3" exhaust with no mufflers. It has a lot of drone

I just put on the Eurocode HFC and am really liking it. I'm getting some really solid pull that also feels smoother than before; it's not very loud. The loudest thing I hear now is the turbo spooling more. I did some decible readings inside the cabin before and after and haven't really seen a change there; but there is a deeper tone, though not what I'd consider drone. Oil temps are reading higher than I had seen before (~221F when the highest I had seen before was ~214F).

If I do the exhaust, it'll just be replacing the rear muffler primarily to go dual-exit. I don't really want to go louder.

    Hey,

Its been more than a year, how do you still like it?

I recently installed Jun BL catback system and I deleted the mufflers to make it louder. However, interestingly, even with muffler delete, exhaust is still very quiet to me. I was thinking about cutting out the front resonator, but I am afraid if it would give me so much drone.

Do you recommend cutting out the front resonator?

Hello guys, I have a '13 A4 manual. I recently deleted the rear muffler and added a straight pipe with a single exit with dual tips (larger than OEM tips) looks real nice. Sound? It really sounds the same as before, maybe a little deeper at lower RPM's. throttle response is noticeably better. The car drives better. Quicker. I wish there was more sound, but I'm happy with the mod.
Email me if you want pics. I can't figure out pics here.
