Thumbs up Seafoam - Positive Results

Vehicle has 31K miles on the clock. Poured a can of Seafoam in the gas tank with a 1/4 tank of 93 in it. 100+ miles later the throttle feels slightly crisper and I picked up 1-2 MPG's. Worth the $8.

Sea foam is good shit. There's a DIY article about it in the forums, shows you where to put it under the hood as well. Made a huge difference in my buddy's 5 series

you have to inject it thru the manifold or it won't touch the valves (in our FSI engines). I recommend the aerosol spray sea foam for doing this.

Just through the gas tank this time. I've heard good things about that method but have yet to try it.

No smoke. Only happens when you run it through the manifold.

Ideally you want 1/3 in the oil, 1/3 in the gas tank and 1/3 through the brake booster hose (easiest way imo). It's strongly recommended getting an oil change after running the foam in your oil for a while just to get it out of the system. I did this on my m3 with 105k miles and really smoothed things up.

So you do need to change your oil after doing this, if you put it in the manifold. I really want to do this now, but I just got an oil change a week ago.

Get better pics of where to add it to the intake mani. A good diy would be helpful in the tech section, specific to our car. Hint, hint.

They now have a new bottle with a special straw that you hook in just before the throttle body:

Instructions (click 'Using Sea Foam® Spray to Clean a Sealed Intake System'):

I'm going to try this out soon.

No you don't need to do an oil change if you don't put it in your oil. But when you put it in your gas tank you're gonna wanna use that tank as much as possible till its basically on empty

Question. When you put it into the gas tank and use it until empty, how does the ratio have to be in between gas and seafoam? I plan on doing this with 1/3 of can in gas tank, 1/3 in intake valve. To be most effective, would it be better to pour 1/3 in barely empty tank and use it until it runs out?

I think it would be 1/3 on a full tank or just under, like the fuel boosters are. I am doing 1/3 tank and intake manifold and then dumping in 1/3 into my oil right before the drive to get my oil changed (30 min drive) to let the detergents clean off as much gunk as possible that will be emptied with the old oil.

I would do a full tank, you'll have the seafoam running through the injectors longer. Just do 1/3 for all there's actually quite a bit in one can.

Nothing can compare to the smoke screen I had following me when I blew a turbo in my Jetta driving from Albuquerque to Denver. Lol. It was so scary, because if I accelerated in the least bit, the thickest cloud of white smoke came out and people behind me had to stop. What a trip that was.

I put the full bottle in with 1/4 tank of fuel, so the concentration was towards the higher side, and it ran fine. Go half and half if you do both...I'd skip mixing it into the oil.

    Are you chipped?

I plan on dumping some into the oil right before the 10 mile drive to get my oil change. Advance auto is having a sale on seafoam for $6.50 a bottle :). Going out during lunch to buy a basketball needle and some tubing.

Stock tune. I'd be hesitant to put anything into the oil, but if you had to do it, right before the oil change would indeed be the safest. I'd suggest driving a little bit more than 10 miles though. Maybe a hundred or so?

For DIY, there is some on youtube. Whatever the car is, it's done the same way.
Just be careful no to hydrolock your engine if you go too fast with the seafoam. I saw somewhere that they use a needle to inflate basketballs with a rubber tube. The needle hole is enough to aspire the right amount of seafoam without hydrolocking the engine.
Like you can see on youtube, it make a lot of smoke, better do it far from homes.
