Doing suspension - what else should be replaced

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Recently picked up a 2001 Avant (6-speed! all stock!...took me 20 months to find it...) w/ about 70K. I'm getting the stasis SS coilover suspension installed. I was looking through some DIY write-ups and nothing really addressed what wear/tear items should be replaced during the suspension install. I'm coming from an e46 3-series and I know that just about everyone who does a suspension on one of those has their shock/strut mounts replaced (usually w/ M3 mounts). Is replacing mounts recommended? Anything else? I'm actually having my BMW tech do the install and since he's not as familiar w/ an S4 I wanted to point anything like this out to him.

I would suggest considering replacing all the control arms/tie rod ends, while your replacing the suspension. The car would ride like new again with new control arms.

    And perhaps the axles.
Last year I picked up a '00 s4 and replaced the above along with the front axles. My car is very smooth on stock shocks and springs.

I'd do the 4 upper front control arms, tie rod ends and upper strut bushings. About $500 for those parts typically.

Wheel Bearings if you are in that deep doing control arms and tie rod ends, and an alignment. Aren't these cars fun!?!?

could look into wheel bearings aswell, ontop of the control arm kit. a normal control arm kit could be anywhere from 300-500+ for a full 12 or 14? or how ever big the kit is. make sure u get heavy duty tie rod ends.

ABSOLUTELY. Just went through this myself... I think when you do any suspension modifications you should replace these things. I had tired mounts that started knocking like crazy and man, replacing them the car feels way better than before even before I started hearing knocking from them.

are you referring to the strut mounts that 2kblacks4 linked to? or are these a different part
