    Oil Pressure Warning Light?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Have any other B8 S4 owners had a red flashing oil light that says "Oil Pressure Low"? Mine just came on and I stopped the car and called the dealer. The car is not in limp mode and I restarted it and no light ha came back on.

I am thinking the sensor might be the culprit or a clog. Any suggestions or similar codes would be appreciated.

    Cheers!

^Did you just do an oil change?

Friend's B8 S4 has the same problem repeatedly this week, what happened on his car:

    1. Just done first oil changed (1500km), so Motul 8100 oil is fresh and level is fine.
    2. Cold Start is 100% no problem.
    4. Oil pressure warning only comes on 30 seconds during warm engine start-up and oil temp still around 90C degree, for example car was off for 30mins+.
    3. Warning "Oil Pressure is too low, please shut down engine" on DIS, no engine check light though.
    4. Warning message comes on with 3x beeping
    5. Shut down the car, restart the car no more warning, car is fine for driving, not on limp mode.
    6. For sure there is no oil leak as tech just checked, car is at dealership for diagnose now

    Possible causes as we discussed:

    1. Faulty Sensor?
    2. Faulty Electronic/Computer due to too many vag-com mods?
    3. Faulty Gauge Cluster?
    4. Faulty Oil Filter Seals

Will keep this update once heard from my friend next week.

This is pretty much the exactly what happened today. I also will be taking my car into service to check for codes. Visually, there are no leaks to be found or any burning oil smells. Hopefully it is just a sensor glitch.

I had this same issue - however I ended up having to get the engine replaced. They replaced three different switches before realizing the engine was cooked. The warning would come on then go off then it was finally followed by the warning coming back on and the engine light coming on. What happened was there were metal filings in the oil pan from assembly and they slowly worked their way through the engine and that was it. Hopefully it's just a switch for you! Best of luck.

^ So let me guess what happened was your car got the oil pressure too low warning first (no EPC or check engine light)
then dealer replace the oil pressure switch 3 times, still not fixing the issue, then you have EPC light, then dealer finally replaced the engine for you?

Not quite. The oil pressure warning came on, and went off about 3 different times the first day. I figured it was just a faulty sensor or something. The second day it was off when I started it up, then about 10 mins into that drive the warning came back on, shortly thereafter the check engine light then came on. a few blocks later, the car went into restrictive speed or rpm mode (whatever you want to call it) and I then immediately drove to the dealership and dropped it off. The dealer then kept ordering and replacing switches and couldn't find the problem. Then after two weeks of not having a car, they then found the filings in the oil pan and determined a full engine replacement was necessary. They then had to rush order a complete engine assembly from Germany. By the time it was all said and done, I was without my car for about 7 weeks.

I did indeed. But from what the dealer was saying, they believed the issue to be prevalent from assembly of the car, so it wouldn't have mattered how I broke it in. After I had the engine replaced, I broke the new one in exactly the same way and have had no issues with the engine or with any oil consumption.

Yup, EPC light and check engine light. No oil pressure low light tho.

Basically engine has no oil pressure and it's metal to metal grind for who know how many months. I have just short of 14000 KM when this happened last week.

Sucks. The dealer is getting a new engine but still waiting for approval from HQ. I'm out for at least 3 weeks I would guess.

And Linkseal, I forgot to ask them if they found any leak from the rear diff. But the new engine news was kinda hard to stomach and I forgot.

The dealer has my Audi in hand and said that they were replacing the sensor. The Oil Pressure Light only came on once and never returned over the next day or so of slow driving. Also, I noticed that I was not able to check the engine oil with the MMI. Lets hope this solves the problem and lets hope the oil analysis I do afterwords comes back clear.

The key is oil analysis. I would have never thought it has a problem if it weren't for the EPC lights. Engine sounded fine at least from inside.

Dealer said the oil looked fine and they replaced the faulty sensor. They also mentioned that it seems that I have an aftermarket exhaust on the car... how dare I! :p Crossing my fingers that this issue does not come up again.
