Anyone running a TTV billet flywheel? UPDATE! FW Has arrived, pics inside!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I think I'm going to pull the trigger on this flywheel to mate with with my SB Stg. 4.... It's a full billet steel flywheel and it's cheaper then anything offered here in NA even with shipping from the UK (vendors around here want $600-900 for a steel flywheel ).

I read a few very good things about TTV and they they use top grade hardened chromoly and are built to last... just wondering if anyone here is running one or ever had experience with TTV in the past?

Ben Crisp is the guy who I currently have contact with there.

    Cheers,
    Sascha

Be sure to let us know if you get the typical low-rpm chatter.

For sure that is the plan... I refuse to pay almost $1k for a steel flywheel from local vendors...

Hello Sascha, I've tried contacting TTV a few times in the past, but I never got any response back from them. I had e-mailed them at their [email protected] address. Is there an e-mail address for Ben Crisp at TTV Racing? Thanks for your help!

How did you make out with this setup? I am very interested in running this flywheel but haven't heard anything from anyone who has one. Did I bolt right up or did it need modification? I read somewhere that it's like 5mm too thin and you need to either buy a spacer or cut the flywheel bolts...

Wow they actually machined the gear instead of welding one on or fastening it with screws. Thats impressive.

I'm very happy with the flywheel... I did however have to cut the bolts down... the information of how much I took off and what I TQ'd them to is in my build thread.

For those of you that went with the TTV flywheel did you get the Lite or the Supalite?

Edit: Nevermind, I see the Supalite is for a smaller diameter clutch.

Correct, only one model for standard clutch. Just a sweet spot between true lite and stock weight, at 18lb it is a perfect weight for a clutch. Zing!

I think the question is do you get the one for the b5s4, or the early b6s4 and newer style clutch.
There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

I have the TTV0608 for my allroad. Pics in my thread, looks different than yours. I don't have the cps sensor ring bolted on mine. I get low rpm chatter. But its not horrible. It certainly is "lite" vs the DMFW

Looks like the early v8 cars had the same 8 bolt pattern as ours instead of the newer 10 bolt.
These are also setup for the newer style clutches like the popular b7rs4.

The only thing I am not sure about is where the missing 2 teeth for the crank sensor line up.
My guess is the same place as ours, but I would be confirming that before buying.

Oh wow Well, I'd still rather pay $466 than $700 or whatever other companies charge. But the fact that yours was so much less is puzzling.

    $479.16 USD on 11/7/2014

Price is the same and only depends on current exchange rate. If anything, this is even cheaper now . Still waaaaaay below $700+ for USA options that are inferior anyway since they still use bolt-on tone ring which is what failed on my fidanza FW for example. At this price, anybody going with aluminum FW is just plain stupid.

why what other than the tone ring can fail? for those that have not installed the fidanza yet can wled the bolts from backing out and grind smooth, should solve that issue. But this being the same price I would probably go with this if I did it again but got way to good of a deal to pass up my setup.

these bolts are not there to prevent the ring from flying outwards (they're way too tiny for forces involved) but from spinning around the FW body during extreme RPMs when force might stretch the ring loose from FW. My failure was clearly due to ring cracking across the bolt hole and section "flapping out" when spinning at 6k rpms, from there it was several hundred Gs of force exploding the ring until it stopped jammed in tranny housing.

Must be some sort of safety feature.

That's why I always shift BEFORE boost.

I know which i why i said weld at the bolts, not to hold in better but to strengthen the weak spot i saw in your post about it. as a side bonus the bolts wont back out. my bad for not being clear in my post.

Plenty of people running them now, including me, with crazy TQ thrown at them too. FWIW I measure a hair over 650whp/~600WTQ this last winter during -10F run and FW was fine, as expected since it is probably 10x stronger than similar slab of aluminum.

The real plus of billet steel FW is the fact that it can actually take abuse as heat dissipates quickly vs aluminum FWs that cook clutches when heat gets trapped on that little steel insert that serves as friction surface for clutch disc. And in case of TTV, no rings of any kind pressed on it or bolted on.
