how to coat your exhaust tips black.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
OK, so I am aquiring a standard silver Milltek catback (thanks B6SCOTT!!!)and want to give it the same black satin finish on the tips as my standard Ti exhuast. Does anybody have any idea to do this? PC would not be my first choice, as I'd much prefer to paint it myself or whatever. I was considering high temp BBQ paint but would prefer a more "automotive" alternative if posssible. Any tips/advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    I found this : http://www.eastwood.com/satin-black-...p-coating.html

May work, but not sure if I should order the aerosol, or paint on version. I was thinking about applying 3-4 coats. The site says this paint is good for up to 1200 F, which is far higher than the exhaust tips would be seeing. Any thoer tips or suggestions would be great. TY!

Ideally I'd think powder coating would be the best option, but then you'd have to remove the tips and have them re welded on. Check out Wurth's line of aerosol products. I know they make a pretty good high temp satin paint you might want to check out.

Either or, it's not a huge deal. They're just exhaust tips.

OK, sounds good, the only question I have would be the finish of the paint. I would want it to be as OEM looking as possible.

EDIT: Rust-Oleum makes a 12oz BBQ black thats easy to find at local stores. I just hope it's roughly the same color as the OEM tips.....

You mean, you want some orange peel in the paint? ;) Worst, case, you just buy another can and repaint; the exhaust is off the car right?

I found BBQ paint is up to twice the heat resistance than the enamal, plus you dont have to cure it. They say curing is 200F for about 20 mins, which Im driving around town for 20 mins should do that anyway.

Went with a satin black engine enamal. Bout 12 bucks shipped, spray can style.

Sadly not the case. Inside of the tips are nice and black but the outside doesn't go black. I'm going to have to hit them with some BBQ paint this spring.
