Engine code differences from year to year on the B7 2.0T FSI?

    Hi,

I am dealing with a 2005.5 B7 2.0T FSI and was wondering about engine differences between the years on the B7. I know all about the B5 A4s but not so much about the B7. Is the 2005.5 a BPG motor and what are the differences from year to year? Would Timing Belt Kits be the same for all years? TIA

    Sebastian

I thought timing belt kits were the same for all 2.0T FSI, even for the GTI.

My 2007 is a BWT engine.

Nope! The "T FSI" has a timing belt where as the "TFSI's" have a timing chain from what I remember hearing...

This is misconception in the naming, there is "FSI" -08', as people just carry over the "T" from 2.0T and say it as "T FSI" and "TSI(TFSI)" 08.5'+

But you are right about them switching to timing chain and cam roller as opposed to a "lifter" for the HPFP, but we all have FSI in the B7s

So as far as B7 2.0T FSI, were they all identical?

Ex. The 1.8T motor started out as a block with a serp. Belt driven water pump, stronger rods, larger intake ports and then went to a timing belt driven water pump, weaker rods, small intake ports, injectors changed from years to year, 3 different engine codes in the B5 alone, then changed again on the B6 model.

I am asking about these kinds of changes on the 2.0T FSI on the B7. Also looks like all FSI waterpumps have plastic impellers where metal ones prove to be best.

Yes they are both "FSI" but the naming convention is the same, but changed at the same time as in the earlier ones that have a cam follower and timing belt are designated as a "2.0T FSI" where as the later model with the roller follower and a timing chain are designated as "2.0 TFSI" understand what I mean now??? Sorry if I came across as snotty just trying to what I mean in words...Lol

Don't worry I knew what you were getting at ;) It is confusing.

And VAG continued to use plastic water pumps in our cars? Eeeesh, figured they would have ruled those out in early 2000 when ALL their plastic water pumps were blowing apart.

Bringing this thread back up. I still have my 2005.5 FSI B7 and a buddy of mine got a 2008 FSI B7. All I can tell is the color of valve covers is different and the HPFP has a different fuel line fitting. I'd love to know year to year differences including engine management changes.
