P2440 Secondary Air Injection Switching valve stuck open (bank1 and bank 2)

I installed the test pipes and expected to get an 02 sensor CEL. Instead i got the CEL, but it was only showing one code - P2440 Secondary Air Injection Switching valve stuck open (bank1 and bank 2)

My main concern is since i got that code - my dyno runs are 30whp lower than before.

Is it because of the test pipes, or is this unrelated?

by no means am I an expert, but here is my thought.

the secondary air injection is for startup emmisions.

when the car starts it blows extra air that makes it way through the exhaust past the 02 sensors. If your valve is always stuck open your car is getting an incorrect air/fuel reading. (extra air). making your engine management adjust to compensate for the optimal burn.

I would have to imagine that this could lead to poor performance.

(I am very open to being corrected, so please do if your are informed on the subject)

(again take my thoughts with a grain of salt)

Your car is running rich for the reason I stated above. Your 02 sensors are seeing a LOT of extra air, and your engine management is adding extra fuel because it thinks its running lean. (when its really not). Causing the poor performance. It really all makes perfect sense.

You will (obviously i'm sure you already know) have to address the secondary air problem asap. Did you already talk to your service dept ? this is something I would pay for out of pocket had my dealer fought my warranty.

secondary air is not a very complicated system and I would imagine this could easily be fixed. if you get a fault code from the problem it probably means the valve is electronically controlled., so its likely just a sensor that is bad.

This could be totally unrelated from you installing your headers. Although I know that is likely the first though that it is related.

dealer initially looked at test pipes and assumed that was the problem. but there are plenty of people out there with test pipes who are throwing 02 codes, but not SAI codes. i really dont want to have to remove the test pipes just to see if its them

I agree, I would not want to remove the pipes either.

Did you ask the dealer what the normal procedure is when this fault comes up ? I would imagine they have a service manual suggesting possible cause's to address when this code is thrown.

The only other option is a independent specialty shop trying to diagnose your car and SAI.

Sorry that my first ever post revives this thread, but I wanted to know how this turned out. I just started throwing the same CEL. Although mine only stayed on between 24-36 hours, and is currently off. I'm waiting on a quote from the shop that does my service (hate my dealership), but I'm under warranty. I'm trying to figure out if they're going to ding me for the exhaust mods before I go get flashed back to stock. So what was the resolution?

I'm pretty sure fonzie still has the codes but I'm sure he'll chime in soon. There are a few others without codes running these.
