Hey does anyone have a link for the audi video that shows how to put the car in service mode so you can do the timing belt? I searched and cannot find the link anymore.

    Thanks

Ive seen that video but Im talking about the one that shows how to disconnect the radiator on one side and swing it out so you dont actually have to take it off. that video takes the whole thing off to remove the engine.

as I understand it service mode is just the removal of the lock carrier, or technically swinging it to the side. its easier to just remove it though.

pull the bumper (remember to disconnect foglights and clamp or plug headlight washer line)

drain coolant - you can move on to other steps while its draining

    remove ic shrouds

disconnect fan wiring harnesses from driver side

remove aux fan and swing ps cooler under

remove a/c condenser and swing aside (remember to remove electrical connector)

coolant should be drained by now

remove lock carrier-to-frame attachment bolts (also called bumper shock bolts)

    remove fender-to-lock carrier bolts

slide lock carrier forward slightly - check to make sure nothing else is connected to it

remove lock carrier and set aside

car is now in service position (mode)

    Heres the vid on vimeo.

    hope this helps!

EDIT: Damn I was too slow lol.

Hmmmm well I just did my tb and following this was not much work. Sure gives you a lot of room to work than just swing in to the side a bit. Well worth the little more work it takes to take the front off.

You can sure try it but you'll be kicking yourself in the ass trying to get all the bolts out of the timing belt cover and then getting at the water pump. Just take it carriage off. lol if you are just changing a pulley, tensioner, or surp belt then ya you can just swing it to the side. just my .02.

youll kick yourself in the balls for not removing it lol, the extra 15mins of work will save you swearing and frustration later.

iirc you are supposed to put the car in 'service mode' to do the alternator. yeah right, i pulled the carrier.
