Any DIY for repair of light curb rash? :(

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was parking my car out front of a restaurant last night and did not notice some uneven concrete and my wheel kissed it giving it a little rash. Just my luck, brand new wheels and two weeks on they catch some concrete, such BS. Is there a DIY for simple light rash? My wheels are hypersilver and this wheel repair guy insists that they have to refinish the entire wheel which is nonsense.

Damn:( Chris, take it by a good body shop and let them have a look. They have methods to repair small areas. A repair shop cracked the paint on a newly painted front bumper a while back and it took it back to the shop that painted it and they repaired only the small area where the paint was cracking and i could not tell it was ever cracked or corrected. I would not want to re-paint the wheel cause its not likey to match the other 3. The body shop should be able to correct just that area. There was a term for the repair they made. Good luck and let me know and I can find out what exactly the shop did.

Such a disappointment, at least I wasn't on 25 series rubber. I am thinking of billing the city for it because the raised concrete wasn't even visible in the dark unless you were looking at it from a foot away.

Worth a shot and fyi Skyler charges "cost" for replacements so that would save a $100ish (or put a hundred in your wallet if the city pays) if you had to get another. I went down to my body shop to check on my car a few minutes ago and mentioned your wheel. He said you would not need to repaint the entire wheel if the damage is light. The process is called "burning". From what I understood they rough up that area, spray it and then "burn" the clear in on and just beyond the damaged area. Good luck.

That sucks, I dont I have been successful on making a claim in the past when I hit some bad pot holes in the middle of the night being in the middle of the road. I took a bunch of pictures and then highlighted the damage and cited the exact location where I received the damage. Quoted the price for the new wheel that required replacement and a few months later I received a nice check!

A couple months ago in a big snow storm I literally touched the curb as I made a right hand turn. The road was so well covered that I could not judge exactly where the curb was and I did not want to turn too wide into traffic. So I took it a bit too sharp and TOUCHED the curb and it led to much more damage than I suspected. So I too have one bad stocker. I plan on taking the lame wheel to Wheelwerks, a local shop that specializes in wheel repair, after I put the summer wheels/tires on.

    Good luck

Wow you are lucky. A week ago I hit a pothole on a single lane highway ramp (clearly unavoidable) blew out two Michelin PS2s, bent a rim and had to repair everything (actually bought 3 tires actually for the sake of balance). I called the claims department, explained what happened and got something in the mail 3 days later. It was a letter stating that the county wasn't liable for any pothole damages incurred between November and April due to some state legislation or some bullshit like that. How f*ing convenient for them. Another reason I hate the government.

I handled my claim through the Utah Departmant of Transportation (UDOT). I would take it to the state level and as ask for the specific statute if they give you that same reply. Two PS2s and wheels is brutal.

The worst is when you're driving fast at night with the street lights being out and BAM you hit a pothole so hard it sends chills through your body
