    Want to add HP to a stock B7 A4 2.0T

    Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to do a search, so even though this has probably been asked 1000 times, I guess I'll ask it again.

    I have an '06 2.0T Avant, bone stock (6 sp automatic tranny ). What's the best way to add about 75-100 hp, and how much would it cost. And even though I would like to think I can, I probably *shouldn't* try to do it myself. Mainly because I have a bunch of small kids and not enough time and definitely not the expertise to do it quickly enough. So I'll have to pay for labor.

    Or am I SOL because I don't have a manual?

    I think turbo replacement will have to come into play to get the higher estimate. Today I dynoed in at about 255 crank and 203 to the wheels on a tiptronic.

    It's hp to the wheels so its not THAT bad, but 250 to the wheels would be better instead of 203

    Word up! I think it's all about tq anyway... I'm sure yours picks up pretty quick. Mine is nice off the line... But in the long run a lot of cars would catch us... 1/4 mile... We have the advantage

    I got APR ECU upgrade done last year at New German Performance in Lorton when APR was having their sale. 4 programs, security, etc. for $650+ tax, incl install. But there shouldn't be a reason you can't search--searching's been my saving grace and I can't count the number of times it's prevented me from asking dumb questions

    ur not sol but having an auto tranny and adding lots of hp (100 is a good amount) seems kinda backwards.....only because ur adding all that performance but the transmission is going to hold you back, not in a strait line but def if you were to auto cross it and stuff ya kno

    Thanks for the input! Good stuff. So you guys aren't having to replace any engine internals, such as valve springs, etc? Good to know I can do this with a auto tranny. I had to get the auto because the wife can't/won't drive a manual and needs to be able to drive it. It drives me nuts. I put it in manual mode 100% of the time.

    So what did you guys spend on these mods (total) to get your wheel hp up to around 250-275? And did you pay for labor or DIY? I could also go backwards here and ask, what kind of HP can I get for $1500?

    I'm not looking to do any sort of autoX or anything like that. I just want more power out of it. Shoulda got a 3.2! I'd really like to swap out 1st gear in the automatic, for something longer if I up the hp, but I have no idea if that's even a possibility.

    if 1500 is what you have and want to max out your performance

    - chip
    - test pipe
    - down pipe
    - cheap fmic
    -k&n air filter
    chip is around 500, test pipe is anywhere from 50-200, down pipe is around 150 if you get it made for you at a shop or something cheap fmic is gonna be around 300-400

    things to not waste your money on
    carbonio intake
    forge dv
    any intake whatso ever
    any downpipe back exhaust (example, greddy g2s)....why? because most of the hp that you recover from doing an exhaust comes from the stock cat and oem down pipe therefore since your budget is tight it would be for sound purposes mainly


    labor? the chip most shops dont charge labor on, test pipe your looking at 1 hour, downpipe your looking at 1 hour (prolly 1.5 hours if done together) fmic is about 3-4 hours k&n airfilter should be done by yourself....so could the fmic but just so you have an idea all these parts are known as bolt-on parts and you might be hitting around 250 whp if you have a good dyno run

    the b7 a4 is expensive to make quick and 1500 is not too much to play with....my thoughts? just get a chip and see how you like it, dollar per hp it is the best value for our cars...

    here's my input

    Unitronic tuning
    RAI downpipe (you can even stay with the stock exhaust)
    KMD or similar high pressure fuel pump
    Snow Water/Meth (which we are about to run a killer deal on)

    these should net you some pretty serious gains. I'd be surprised if you didnt make 210+ wheel. The downpipe you could probably do yourself, but I see your in Nova, If you feel like making the trip we could get all these squared away for you. I bet we could even throw in a free dyno too.

    I just did a Unitronic's 1+ chip Friday... LOVE it! Seriously it is awesome! I'd start there... Only 600.

    3.2 Liter - claims 255 horsepower and 243lb-ft torque. 224 whp means that there's only a 12 % drivetrain loss. I also just saw another guy post that he dyno'd at 213 wtq (another 12% drivetrain loss example). That seems to be a very low amount of drivetrain loss.
    def love the sound of my 3.2 (manual) ~ I put down 213awtq and most of it is there from the low 2k rpm range... takes off quite quick. also pulled on a stock 06 G35 coupe which surprised me a bit

    That almost makes me think that Audi was conservative with the 3.2's output as well as the 2.0T. I think the crank output of the 3.2 is more than 255hp.

    drivetrain loss on quattro is around 20-22%, more if you factor in the automatic transmission. also you have to look at the type of dyno used ie. Mustang vs dynojet. They both function differently so the numbers they get shouldnt be directly compared. Coderedpl's numbers sound about right to me.

    I believe that a Stage 2+ car with IC, Water/Meth and 100 oct tune can have around 300 CHP. Of course with an auto tranny you will loose a lot of hp to the wheels but you should be close do 210-220 whp.

    So you need:
    HFC/test pipe with downpipe (034 + downpipe or RAI complete downpipe)
    HPFP (APR, KMD ...)
    Stage 2+ tune for water/meth or 100 oct file
    Water/Meth kit
    Intercooler
    2006 DG Audi B7 A4 2.0T 6spd
    • Performance: APR Stg2+ 93oct using 94oct gas / AFE Dry Filter/ 034 HFC/ APR HPFP/ Treadstone TR6 IC / OBX Cat-Back
    • Handling & Braking: Stasis SS Coilover / RS4 Sway / Carbotech Bobcat Pads
    • Look: Drop / 19" VMR V713 / OEM S4 mirror / DDM 6000k bi-xenon

    Quattro/Tips are losing ~28% to the wheels on a Mustang from my experience. Had mine run multiple times in it's stock configuration on the same dyno (RAIs) and it showed 28% from wheels (157hp) to crank (201hp). Would recommend at least a visit up to RAI just to see what they have to offer, they are solid people.

    Btw: Check out RAI's DP with the HFC, well worth the investment in my opinion.

    BASIC PERFORMANCE UPGRADES (BPU):

    Software upgrade (REVO, APR, GIAC, UNITRONICS, etc) $500-800
    Exhaust upgrade (AWE, APR, Milltek, Stasis, etc) $800-1300
    Test pipe or high flow catalyst (RAI, 034, Eurocode, VMR, etc) $80-400
    Upgraded intercooler system (AWE, RaceTec, ER, ATP, etc) $700-1200
    High pressure fuel pump (KMD, APR, Autotech, etc) $300-1100

    If my math are correct:

    157whp vs 201chp = 22% drivetrain lost (201-157)/201
    157whp if we apply 28% you would need to do 157 / 0.72 would mean 218chp

    If you are at Stage 2 with full exhaust and you dyno is at 210 whp (which sound a little high, what kind of dyno was it?)

    Adding the HPFP give just about 8 peak whp
    Typical IC gain is around 7% peak
    Meth probably add only around 8 peak whp with already a good IC

    That would give around 240whp or 308chp considering 22% drivetrain loss. That sound pretty good an probably the maximum a K03 can achieve.

    On a mustang dyno i don't think my numbers would drop MUCH lower, would they? Would seem kind of silly

    labor? the chip most shops dont charge labor on, test pipe your looking at 1 hour, downpipe your looking at 1 hour (prolly 1.5 hours if done together) fmic is about 3-4 hours k&n airfilter should be done by yourself....so could the fmic but just so you have an idea all these parts are known as bolt-on parts and you might be hitting around 250 whp if you have a good dyno run

    the b7 a4 is expensive to make quick and 1500 is not too much to play with....my thoughts? just get a chip and see how you like it, dollar per hp it is the best value for our cars...
    Well said sir, I would however add that you should definatley upgrade your diverter valve if you get it chipped. The oem diaphram units are almost guaranteed to blow under the higher boost levels. The revised piston one will do the job, you dont need a fancy forge one like mr shickadance said.
