Ignition Coil Connectors was the cure and a BIG thank you to the forum!

First of all, thanks to the search tool it takes forever to finally find something worthy of a post that hasn’t been analyzed, diagnosed, corrected, vendor flamed, discussed and eventually thanked to death. I would have been at the side of the road clueless had it not been for some of you all so a big thank you to each of you that thumbed it home and posted their solutions before I bought a B6!

I had been having a series of ignition coils burn out on me over the last 2 months coupled with misfire codes on my third cylinder. I was about to buy the Hitachi upgraded coils from ECS when I stumbled across a recommendation in the Canadian Regional forum recommending that I check out a local vendor. With the coils still in the online shopping cart I went into my garage to install my last spare and for the first time took a glance at the Ignition Coil Connectors and found that my wires were badly cracked. Naturally being an idiot, I wiggled the wires around while the car was running and sure enough, the car farted a few times and eventually stalled out completely. Wires it is…

Happy to say that THIS sorted me out…for anyone searching for a fix to their misfire woes, don’t forget to check your wires and connectors to see if they need replacing…this solved my issues. The Audi dealership was charging $18 for each connector itself and $10-12 PER WIRE…Fawk!!! This was a steal in comparison…

After reading the writeup on the connectors, I should have figured this out a whole lot sooner (Product description included to help future search button whores).

“Ignition Coil Harness/Connector Repair Kit: Kit Contains: 4) High Temprrature Leads and Terminal - Pre-Assembled in an OE Type Connector. 4) Heat Shrink Butt Connectors. 1) Terminal Extractor Tool.

Failed or Burned Up VW/Audi Coils are Most Commonly Caused By Poor Electrical Connections, Wire Harness Breaks or Fouled Spark Plugs.New Connectors Should be Replaced When replacing Ignition Coils, Especially If There Has Been More Than One Coil Failure. A Loose Connection (Caused by Engine Vibration, a Cracked Connector Housing, Cracked or Broken Wire Insulation) Can Cause a Voltage Spike Which May Not Only Destroy or Burn Up the Ignition Coil, But Also the Neighboring Coil Because the Harness Wires are Bridged Together. The OE Connectors Are Not Designed to be Repeatedly Unplugged and Re-Plugged. VAG Recommends Replacing the Connectors if There is a Chance of a Loose Connection.

Good to hear of your successful repair. It's also your good luck to have not purchased the Hitachi coils, as they are not properly compatible with the B6 AMB ignition parameters in the ECU. The latest coilpack with revision D seems to be the best part so far.
