Adding a resonator to my 3 inch diameter exhaust

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a 4inch DP leading into a 3inch exhaust after the flex joint. The exhaust has one resonator that then leads into a magnaflow muffler to finish it off. I have about 2 feet of straight pipe before the first resonator. I would like to add one more resonator in the 2 feet of straight pipe to quiet the car down due to a ticket for "unreasonable noise" by the NYPD. Can anyone recommend a company that sells resonators that would help in this situation? I bought this custom exhaust from someone i dont have the number to anymore and i cant figure out the name of the one i have.

Im not sure if im in the right forum for this question but any help would be cool.

    Thanks
    Pete

Resonators typically change the tone of the exhaust or correct/help/eliminate rasp. Overall volume is usually unaffected. If volume is affected, power is also affected. Louvered resonators will be your best bet without robbing too much power. Me personally, I'd be looking into adding a second muffler because it'll likely cost the same and help reduce the noise output substantially.

I'd seriously consider purchasing a second muffler than adding a resonator.

Any difference of adding a 2nd muffler vs adding a resonator?

Resonator and muffler serve the same purpose (changing exhaust note), but differently. A muffler muffles (supresses) the exhaust, and the resonator resonates (produce or be filled with a deep, full, reverberating sound) it. As perplexing as that sounds, that is about the jest of it.

Well yesterday I installed a custom 2.5" from downpipe to a borla muffler. I used a glasspack resonator but I think is too loud for me. Im thinking about change the resonator to a muffler or adding an additional resonator. I really dont know if adding a 2nd resonator will decreased the flow more than just using a muffler as a resonator.

If using a proper resonator for the sound quality you want (they are not all built the same), along with proper muffler for sound quality you want, place in proper position, then you would not have an issue. Also, quality steel and thickness plays a role when it comes to drone.
