Anyone install a pistol safe in their A4? Or any other Audi.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Doesn't seem to be a whole lot of room. A lock box with a cable through the seat bracket seems to work, but is a pain to get to. Curious if anyone had any photos of better, permanent solutions in an Audi.

(if guns bother you in some way, pretend I said hard drive safe or jewelry safe)

    Best regards,
    Sean.

Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone
bang your wife and being proud to raise their kids.

To the OP, I've thought about this since I had the car on order - still haven't figured out a solution.

Yes - securely. As well as to store it when you leave the vehicle and can't CCW; schools, court, church, etc...

Pop-Up, Roof-Mounted Gatling Gun Is Latest in Auto Safety
    Email Print RSS Share 0diggsdiggOctober 1, 2009 12:00 AM

From the street, the GMC Yukons customized by Dillon Aero look like standard-issue SUVs. But behind the tinted windows lurks a fire-spitting dragon: a Dillon Aero M134D Gatling minigun. Designed for VIP escort, the Yukons are outfitted with a roll cage, steel-plate armor and puncture-proof fuel cells and tires. And though weighing around 9000 pounds, the vehicles can exceed speeds of 100 mph (forthcoming supercharged models should be able to go even faster).

At the first sign of trouble, the gunner can pop through roof panels mounted on spring-loaded gas shocks, swivel up to 360 degrees, and unleash a withering, 3000-rounds-per-minute barrage. That's 50 different 7.62-mm bullets every second.

The two half-moon roof panels act as a shield, and the gun operates off its own 28-volt electrical system, which feeds the ammo from 3400-round linked belts. "The vehicle lays down so much firepower so fast," says a Dillon Aero spokesman (who asked to remain anonymous), "if you're a bad guy, all you're going to want to do is keep your head down."

Dillon Aero is no stranger to withering fire—the Arizona-based company is the country’s largest manufacturer of electric Gatling guns, which were first developed during the Vietnam War to suppress enemy fire from helicopters. Dillon Aero’s guns are in wide use, mounted on everything from OH-57 Little Bird helicopters (think of the strafing scenes in the film Black Hawk Down) to Humvees.

When it comes to the armed Yukons, Dillon Aero is coy about its customers; it says they include governments around the world that are friendly to the United States. Six of the vehicles were recently sold to an unnamed Middle Eastern government. Of course, all such weapons sales require official American export permits. Aside from a video posted on YouTube—a leaked promo, according to Dillon Aero—the Yukons have yet to make a public appearance. Which is probably a good thing. —Carl Hoffman

Many states allow lawful citizens to keep firearms in their vehicles without a permit. Almost all states allow this if the citizen has a permit from that state or a reciprocal state.

I just watched The War Wagon yesterday, with John Wayne. That gatling gun on top reminds me of that. I guess I could turn my Audi into a Wehrwagen!

I stick to mostly 1911s or revolvers. In the temporary safe in the car though, lives a glock 21, because a 5" 1911 doesn't fit. I'm hoping that someone has a perfect solution I haven't thought of to mount a Gun Vault type safe.

In your kimber vs springfield decision, I'd strongly recomend springfield. The lack of firing pin block safety means the gun has one less thing to fail, and the springfields as a whole have a higher level of reliability and fit and finish.

I've got an MC Operator and a TRP. Both are great.

im very curious to this too since i carry a HK P2000SK everyday with me and have nowhere to put it when i get out of the vehicle. i wonder if the under-the-seat storage boxes can be custom made into something. the center arm rest storage is basically so small for a gun its almost a non-existent option.

Good to hear. I'm yet to having anyone say a single negative thing about Springfield. I've been checking out the Springfield 1911 Combat vs. the Kimber Eclipse II. I had my mind set on buying the Kimber, but I really like the Springfield. Plus, it's hard to beat Springfield name and history.

Not secure. If someone steals it... then there's an illegal gun going into a criminal's hands w/in 30 mins. Gun safe or on your person - glovebox if absolutely necessary.

    Important issue/concern.
Know glovebox space is limited to say the least, under seat 'storage' is even more restrictive.
Design an under-seat slide out bin for your pieces with special lock?
Expect that memory/non-memory seats would have different openings height and width.
Not a gun guy, simply offering suggestions as to how to safely store your stuff.

Back on topic. Why a safe? If someones going to take the time to break into your vehicle, they will prob be able to take it. Otherwise it takes upto 3-4 seconds to access one that has a simple 2-3 touch combination sequence, by then you could be dead. I am currently considering the under seat storage compartment sold as an add on accessory. There's a thread on it so check it out. Don't cage it.

I'm in California, so the laws are a bit different. Plus I prefer the idea of a locked box for when giving the car to a valet, mechanic, or whatever, when I won't have the gun on my person.

Can you guys carry them loaded? In CA the ammo and weapon have to be in separate compartments which means they're pointless to carry and only cars with trunks can legally carry both anyway. CA has some stupid ass laws.

in PA we can, just need a the permit. mine is always loaded but not one in the chamber. i think it would be sweet to custom fabricate a biometric safe for the glovebox or armrest area. the one i am thinking of is like in the James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies in his 7 series. for everyone who owns a gun it is probably easier to make something for a smaller weapon rather bigger, especially for the armrest. i am thinking either modding my glovebox to make a secure spot or working on the under seat storage box.

The point here is storage when not in the vehicle, correct? I have been using the locked glove box. If someone breaks into the car you are screwed either way if it is in a safe in the trunk or in the glove box. Locks only keep honest people out.

Technically unless you have a CCW you have to have it in a safe or secured with a lock, in the trunk, separated from ammunition. Can't wait to take my CCW class next month and not worry about that crap lol

    seriously

I understand you dilemma, I have been in law enforcement for a few years and there are a few places when I like to leave it in the car(usually I always carry off duty...yes even courthouses and airplanes...airplanes you just need tsa/dhs class and a few other particulars). I would think the best place would be a lockable small safe somehow mounted in the glove box because the back seat is too far and under the seat is hard to get to. Ive seen larger suvs like tahoes ect.... that have a replaceable center console that doubles as a safe....

Where do you drive that you feel the need to carry a gun? I am not criticizing, I just don't understand the need or desire to carry one in my car.

    Money video.

Glock 19 (9mm) here w/ Hollow Points. I'm thinking of upgrading to .45 soon since crazyiness is part of the Metro DC area.

Reviving an old thread... Did the OP ever find a solution? I was kicking around the idea of a trunk mounted spot near the amp.
I can open carry and have it loaded in my car, but with my son in the car I lock it up in the trunk.
