I'am wonder what are the common faults in this engine.I konw that it suffers for increased oil consumption. What alse ? I got info. from a friend who works in VW/Audi dealership a he doesn't recommend this engine. He says that 1.8 TFSI much more reliable Why ?

    Thanks

    No engine problems so far.
The intake manifold is a weak spot on these cars.
Also, some people have been getting this.
No impact to performance or the engine yet....

Unfortunately, we only get 2 engine options here in America which doesn't include the 1.8TFSI. So I have no idea, but in general, I find the 2.0TFSI to be pretty awesome. Lots of people in here have noted they have about a quart of oil consumption between changes, your milage may vary. I can make it between oil changes pretty well with adding any additional. But if you ask me, the combination of power, fuel economy and price makes it pretty compelling.

Another thing to add is the carbon buildup. Haven't had to deal with it yet.

Has anyone seen significant carbon build up on the revised (09+) engine? I haven't seen any reports of such.

Diatomic noted having some carbon build up cleaned by his local shop when having some other issues worked out. I don't remember seeing any pics or other significant details, though.

    Cool,
Can you give some reasons you think may lead to the carbon buildup? Lot's of in town stop & go? Not pushing the rev's up high enough occasionally? Short trips?
I have almost 40,000 mi on my 2.0 and don't notice any symptoms yet. My car is driven about 20 mi (mostly hi-way) one way to work so it is completely up to operating temp before it gets shut down.
I tend to drive it more with fuel economy in mind, but the occasional 4-4500 rpm off the light is kinda fun.
I have to agree with MrPerfect, The 2.0 T is a nice little motor.

There is a thread the Mr. P has put together here:
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...B8-A4-2.0T-3.2

I really haven't had to deal with this much, so I'm not sure what would increase the chances of build-up.
Maybe unnecessary extended idling? Not quite avoidable in Manhattan.

The direct injected engines all suffer from carbon build up. There is a megathread where a ton of members have posted pictures and experiences. The fsi rs4 motor seems to be the worst although the 2.0 fsi has some brutal build up from pictures ive seen on other forums. I have heard rumors that the tfsi engines have been modified to address this problem although this hasnt been confirmed by anyone as far as i know. For now it seems that all audi direct injection motors will suffer from the carbon build up issue.

I'm actually having my engine decarbed as we speak. Will find out shortly if there was any significant build up. I'm also over 50K miles now...

I think its fairer to say that its a by-product of direct injection systems, not Audi - correct?

For a different source of reliability, suggest this site - http://www.truedelta.com/car-reliability.php

In general, from the forums here though, I have never heard of catastrophic failures of any type with this engine. Reliability is on par or better than recent BMW 3s (their engine is an older model however), and is right out more reliable than Mercedes or Porsche (consumerreports).

If you are looking into a German make, you just need to realize that a certain amount of bugs usually come with the territory. That said, I have yet to have one issue requiring an unscheduled visit to a dealer after 1.5 years of ownership - even with the modest modding I have done to my 2.0T.
