I have a 2.7T A6 and was looking into possibly replacing the stock sub with an aftermarket one. Where is the stock sub located (non Bose sound system)? Is it even worth replacing the stock sub if I plan on putting the new sub in the same place as the stock sub (not looking for a huge improvement, just a little more bump)?

its in your trunk, you open the cover on the right and they should be in there.

I am in the process of replacing my Bose Symphony II with Alpine/Focal... I am using the OEM Subwoofer location to hide away my Amps... If your looking for a little more BUMP, I would suggest getting a Amp/Sub Combination Box and just run the pwr and trigger wires to it...

I see the black box that seems to contain the sub but I won't be able to remove it unless I remove the whole right side panel (not just that little door). Is the right panel held in place by screws or tabs?

I just don't want a big box sitting in my trunk so I'm trying to hide it as easily as possible because I don't want to make my own custom box with fiberglass.

Mmmm, was just wondering if you'll be able to find a replacement sub that will be able to give you the extra BUMP you want that can work in such a small compartment... The Bose systems are pretty well tuned to give the best possible for the limited space provided... Be interested to know what you do...

I don't have a bose system, but I was thinking of throwing a JL Audio 8" sub into the stock sub box if I can get it to fit then run it off a separate amp. Just gotta get the box out first haha

I install for a living. A single 8 in the trunk of an audi is not worth your time.

Any expereince in a customer mount in the trunk on the left side? Like where the stock 6 disc would normally go? Thinking of a shallow mount 12 there? Thoughts?
2000 A6 2.7MT - currently gutted, a few parts left, PM me if you need anything.

The enclosure would be a bear to glass in there, but there is plenty of room depthwise from what I remember. My eq and one of my amps are behind that side panel.

Thank you for saving my time and money, I guess I'll save until I can make a fiberglass box in that left side panel and throw a 10 or a 12 in there.

I also spent a few years in the car audio business. I would not put a sub on the left while leaving the stock one on the right. They will have conflicts and cancel each other at certain times. Plus the pass side is more workable and better for weight balance when you are driving alone. Check out this other thread about stereo's in a C5. I have referenced these photos so many times-

Yes. I like a lot of bass.

I may do 3 JL 10w3's in the sparewell next though. I miss the trunk space.

I was thinking of maybe putting a sub down there as well, would you make a custom enclosure out of fiberglass or what?
On a seperate note, I was thinking of possibly purchasing new speakers but I was told by some stereo shop worker that the stock sound systems in European cars are generally pretty nice. Is this true? or would I notice better sound with new speakers such as these?
