    Where is cabin temperature sensor

I have a 2008, S4 Avant with Tiptronic. The climate control (or lack thereof) in the S4 is making me crazy. It's been in the teens to 20s around here and I have to keep the AC set to 60 degrees to keep it from getting too hot inside. This is mainly after cold start. If the car's been running a while it seems to level out some, but still keeping it at 60 degrees. Where is the cabin temperature sensor located anyway? I'm thinking it's touching something or out of position maybe.

I believe this is an issue with many Audis, even my B5. I recall reading a thread regarding this issue a few years ago on AZ. Someone stated that whenever the ecu senses that the outside temp is below freezing, the only air you'll get out of the air vents would be heat :|

That sounds about the way it behaves actually. Some engineer must have hit the beer garden on the way to work that morning. That's pretty retarded design.

I thought the sensor was in the climate control unit itself which is why that little vent exists on the front of it. I could be wrong, but this is what I recall from my B5 days. (as speedydragon mentioned)

So does that mean that the sensor is sitting in some air flow redirected through the unit from the hoses that feed the vents, or does it just mean they've set the sensor back inside the unit with an opening that lets cabin air diffuse in? I haven't even noticed a vent; I'll look for it tomorrow though.

So, is this a stupid system or is it smart? Does it use a PID type controller stand alone that can be adjusted, or part of some other on board computer? Can it be adjusted some how like through a hand held device? I've been driving around in freezing weather with my heat off most of the time, keeping the seat heater and my coat on while I drive. It's absurd.

Anyone ever hacked Audi's climate control?

That sensor is for the interior temperature. When you set your hvac to auto, the fan is either blowing at a high rate or lower rate depending on the temperature you have your hvac set at and the temperature of the interior.

Whereas the exterior temp sensor is the thing that determines whether your vents are blowing out heat or cold air. I recall the exterior temp sensor being placed behind the front bumper near the pass. side on the b5. Not so sure on the B6.

The interior temp sensor is located in the air ducts. Item 20 in the link
