This doesn't mention anything about swapping ballasts? I was under the impression that different ballasts were used between halogen and bi-xenon?

    Cleared that up.

So the ballasts for the bi-xenons just need to be tucked away somewhere?

They're directly attached to the housing on the bottom considering you are using OEM parts

Was also looking at the other DIY about the differences between halogen and bi-xenons, gathering as much info as I can before my swap. The bi-xenons have the DRL bulb, will I just not use that function? Obviously don't have it now.

When you code the headlights you'll see the various options of setting them up so yours can be running on if you want them to

Ok I read up on the Vagcom thread earlier and noticed that. So if I code them on, it doesn't matter that I don't have the DRL function on my headlight switch?

Its a little knob NEXT to the headlight switch, but yes it doesn't matter.that knob just allows you to shut them off.

If you don't have the knob and code them on...it will be on at all times, until you code them back off through vagcom.

This is what I figured. So they'd turn on when I started car, would they stay on when I put the headlight switch to city light? And turned headlights on?

Im not sure i understand the need to recode for these headlights.

Do the actual OEM xenon headlights have some sort of CAN -BUS control board in it? On my B5/B6 you could swap xenon headlights, plug and play, thats it.

My b7 which i did a retrofit on(proper) i just grabbed my bixenon from the high beam wire and soldered it over to the actuator, which is a method used for a few of my buddies cars too in the past.

Gotta vag mine I guess. Installed earlier, and things were fine. Now it's flickering pretty bad (almost like strobe at times). Dang it, I hope that fixes it and its not that the ballast are bad. That would suck...

VAG-COM fixed it. Also followed the guide to wire the high beams. Worked great. The kufatec harness itself is excellent quality. The new ones have been upgraded and all the wires are wrapped in OEM black fabric tape. Nice touch.

Yes, I used this guide (DIY) starting on page 1. Nope, high beam function requires some minor wiring to work.

You need an extended Torx tip
You can also try with a long flat screwdriver that will fit the torx head

The running of the yellow wire is basically enabling the high beam function. Just follow this DIY exactly, VAG COM your car and you should be good to go. I'm about to do this mod, just waiting on my VAG COM wire to come in the mail. I want to test everything to be working perfectly before I go ahead and start taking my halogens out.

Does this process also add the adaptive portion of the OE HIDs or does that require different Kufatec harness and parts??

I'm curious if the yellow wires come with the kufatec harness? Also, is vagcom something I can download onto my laptop? Sorry for the noob questions.

The 2 wires are the 2 signals for the High Beam function
You need the VAG interface cable to be able to use the software

I am having a similar problem and wondering if any of you guys that have completed this retro might have experienced and resolved this? I am getting the following code:
    02071 Local Databus
    57-00- Electric Circuit Failure

Symptom: After the lights have been on for over 10-15 minutes the DS beam will start to flicker and cut out while driving. When the car is idle it will still flicker but not nearly as often.

I tried swapping the bulb first with a spare I had in the side that was flickering and the code persisted, but I did not have them on long enough to see if they would flicker.

I then tried swapping the ballast with a spare, same results. Will see on my drive home tonight if they will start to flicker again, but I am fully expecting they will since the same code is present.

    Anyone?

So I'm about to pick up my B7 Friday and I'm already planning the xenon conversion. I plan to source the xenons from eBay as I want them to be ecode. Does anyone happen to know what part number(s) for xenons will work just as its laid out in this DIY. I would hate myself if I picked up a set of xenons and it ended up being the wrong set.

Any help is appreciated, I'm looking forward to making the change from B6 to B7

Hey man. Congrats on the new purchase.

As to the e-codes, its a bit different for the B7 xenons. So you can get Euro headlights, but my understanding is the light is aimed differently (for those left side drivers). What a LOT of members will do is open their xenons, take out the amber lenses and replace it with a clear one. They will often also "joey mod" or paint some of the chrome black in the headlight. I've personally done this before and it's not terribly difficult. There's a DIY on here somewhere. You can (or use to be able to) get the clear corner lenses from @fly300kts on this form. You may also want to buy your xenons off this form as they're usually decent pricing.

Also, be aware that the euro headlights I've seen on eBay don't have ballasts or bulbs (those will cost another ~$300). and you'll obviously need the harness listed in this thread.

Has anyone done this recently? I just purchased the kufatec harness here: https://www.kufatec.us/shop/en/audi/...-audi-a4-b7-8e

What I received seems a bit different from this DIY. Did I order the wrong item?

Major problem with this whole procedure. I'll create another thread as well.

-Installed Bi-Xenon's (OEM) with kufatec harness wired into control module.
-VCDS would not open Module 09 - Central Elec. Did a ton of troubleshooting on my computer to no avail
-Unplugged two yellow wires and the kufatec harnesses and plugged the halogen housings back in.
-VCDS opened up Module 09, finally.
-Reprogrammed for 00033 (BiXenon w/o DRL), plugged harness back in w/ BiXenon housings back in, reconnected two yellow wires to pins 21/22
    -No lights, nothing.
-VCDS will not open module 09 at all. tried unplugging yellow wires again and putting halogens back in, no lights. tried bi-xenon housings, no lights. no communication with module 09 at all to recode it back to halogen.

So now I'm stuck with no headlights, no interior lights, heck no central electronics at all, and many hours wasted on this process.

    Anyone got any ideas?

-Installed Bi-Xenon's (OEM) with kufatec harness wired into control module.
-VCDS would not open Module 09 - Central Elec. Did a ton of troubleshooting on my computer to no avail

Double check the harness is clipped back into ecu properly. Sometimes the little hook on the swivel tab thing don't grab and the plug isn't pushed all the way in

Dude I must've unplugged and replugged that connector a dozen times in the last few hours. For shits and giggles I tried one last time after you said, pushed harder than I thought necessary and it worked! Thank you so much

Work like a charm now I just have to adjust them so I'm not blinding people

Edit: there should be a PSA about those style clips. Every time I installed it the orange clip was clicking in like it was secured but it needed some more force to make contact with the pins.
