Are you sure it isn't P0171?

Weird code but this is what I found :

    http://www.resettools.com/audi_vw_dtc_codes

P1071 Nitrogen oxides (NOX) sensor - heater control - incorrect signal

Interesting because after searching the net, I also read that it can be either having to do with plugs(Which coincides with the fact that the car was stored for so long), or an exhaust leak, even though the code would be different.

You are being a little confusing with this answer.

    Which is it?

    P0171
    P1071

The first one is "Fuel Trim,Bank1 System too Lean". That code is almost always caused by a faulty or dirty Mass AirFlow sensor. The second is not a documented Audi code. 1.8T does not have a NOX sensor.
