    Sudden acceleration

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
today i had an episode of sudden acceleration. I was making a right turn on to Merrick bvld and had to give it some gas to make it. so a put my foot all the way down and once up to speed i took my foot off the gas but it kept accelerating. i hit the brakes but the engine kept revving until i pressed the break really hard. when i took my foot off the break it started again so i put it into neutral and that stopped it. This also happened a few weeks ago and i put it down to my floormatt being messed up.
I have no clue what's wrong. at first I thought I hit the resume on the cruse control stalk but it should have immediately stopped when I hit the brakes..
Im going to call the dealer tomorrow and see what they say.

well its drive by wire and their is nothing to hang up on to speak of under the dash. what year car is it? possibly the throttle body is sticking. could be moisture. could be alot of things really. is it really cold their? is it happening close to after u started it or just random after the car has been ran a while?

just a few things to help solve this. and definitely let us know if the dealer has the fix!

It's an 06 2.0t quattro. It's been cold around 35 and it was about 10 minutes after I started driving.

Are you sure you don't drive a Toyota? I didn't know Toyota's had a 2.0t quattro? Must be a new version.

    Best regards,
    Sean.

It is definitely not and AMG! (license plate).

As for the problem.. Do you have THICK winter mats? Maybe holding the pedal down?

My first reaction would be check the mats, they might seem like they are in the right spot but make sure they are clipped in and out of the pedals way. I had this happen to me once. Almost shit my pants, turns out the mat turned a bit and was hitting the very bottom part of the pedal.

Um, the Audi 5000 pretty much invented Unintended Acceleration.

.... by owners and 60 Minutes, and owners who damn well knew they were the cause of the issue, which nearly killed Audi in North America.

    Wikipedia FTW

"Subsequent investigation revealed that 60 Minutes had engineered the failure — fitting a canister of compressed air on the passenger-side floor, linked via a hose to a hole drilled into the transmission."

i have actually had the same thing happen twice to me....over a several month period.
Only happens when i punch the gas to get going and i let up and what do you know - my car keeps speeding up.
Scared the crap out of me but when i went to hit the brake it stopped.

First time i thought it was a fluke...especially after all the toyota talk but it happend again.
havent gone to the dealer since it happend yet but think i will say something.

    did you find out anything?
i am pretty certain it was not my foor mat....it takes a good amount of preasure to get on the gas...

    my car is a 2008 A4 2.0T quattro.

I'd be changing out that throttle sensor as soon as possible, but at least you know how to handle the situation vs panicking and losing control!

Nice that they were so quick to fix it, im pretty sure toyota has paved the way. Also what I found startling is that all toyota drivers that were injured never just pushed the car into neutral. I know people panic but thats the first thought that comes to mind. When I worked for a lumberyard our delivery box trucks peddle got stuck to the floor and the driver panic'd. I had to grab the shifter and put it in neutral. Makes you wonder.
