Hi, just had a rather important question. I have a stage one Revo ECU upgrade and my clutch recently started slipping, probably due to the extra torque of the upgrade. (not really the problem) My question has to do with the engine, I've put about 5,000 miles on the car since the upgrade and im curious if its going to increase the wear on my engine. To be honest, if this upgrade just reduces the life of the engine substantially, I'll just get rid of it. If anyone, whom has put lots of miles on their car with this kit, could give me some input on what i should do, it would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I want this car to last awhile and dont need it to wear out at 60,000 miles.

You should have done more research before chipping, if that is your most significant worry about getting chipped you clearly were not ready for it

Agreed but seriously you don't think putting more hp in your cars not gonna wear your engine faster? It's not like your gonna kill your car though stage 1 only adds so much power so don't act like it is gonna blow up unless you don't take care of your car cus then it will. with the proper maintenance your car run chipped just as long as any other car chipped. you should have done some more research.

Yea i did alot of research but i simply assumed that Revo would have tested their program with stock parts. My concern happened when my clutch went bad, i figured that they would have designed the chip to not ruin stock components. Is there really much of a difference between APR and Revo chips? As well, how often does everyone perform oil changes?

If your clutch is slipping a 5k miles it's either:

    A) You're riding the clutch

    B) Defective from the factory

Because Revo/APR Stage 1 don't make enough power to cause the clutch to slip! I currently have 50k miles with Revo Stage II+ and it's been chipped since literally day 1; I purchased my car on a Saturday and chipped it that following Monday with less than 30 miles. I've taken my car to the tracks to drag race and to autocross on several occasions and I'm still on my OEM clutch at 50k miles. I usually change the oil at 3-4k miles or every 6 months (whichever comes first) and use Mobil1 0W40 during the summer and Mobil1 5W30 during winter. But that's me!

    Eh?

kristokes is right. It's either the way you operate the clutch or a defective clutch. I personally know a guy who rides his clutch alot and had his clutch die on him within 10k. Original owner and not chipped.

APR stage 1 will deff not effect your clutch tho. Also if he bought the car used prev owner could have worn it down by ridding the clutch or if hes trying to do launches with the car that would cause it to slip ( not saying you are doing that or anythning)

Stage 1 will not "decrease" the life of your engine. As long as you do oil changes and keep up with other maintence you will be fine, Also using proper fuel will help.

You should also look after your pcv and dv, both mine went within 5000miles after I got Revo stage 1. It is known that they might fail.

I'm currently using the new oem piston style dc and the latest revision pcv, on top of that i have installed the eurojet pcv fix, just in case.

stage 1 wont kill your motor. If your unfamiliar with standard you will blow your clutch. I ran stage 3 on oem clutch for 55k and never once did it slip.

Your clutch has nothing to do with engine wear. Like others have stated, your clutch issues most likely have to do with your driving style.

Piston speed (high revs) wears down engines much more than boost does.

nobody has asked the miles on his clutch before he was flashed...

edit: read that he put on 5k and doesn't "want the clutch to wear out by 60k" so......was he at 55k?

While I cannot speak for Revo I can say that APR's Stage 1 ECU Upgrade is developed to work within the OEM and Tier 1 Supplier specifications for engine component stress tolerances and performance specifications. You should not see any long or short term ill effects from their software.

You should blame your left foot or your clutch. It does speed up wear and tear but you shouldn't be regretting an upgrade. You can always downgrade your tune back to stock.

Bought my car at 70k miles, now over 100k. I'm running Revo Stage 1 for the last ~10,000 miles and recently put on a hfc in preparation to get the Stage 2 flash upgrade. My clutch did start to slip a bit after the hfc upgrade but only at low rpms in high gear (high torque) situations. I blame the previous owner, I think she probably learned to drive manual on it..., then again it's got 100k miles on it, so no real shame. I just bought the JHM clutch for it. Haven't installed yet, but don't anticipate any more problems ever. I'd much rather replace the clutch than drive tune-less. I set my tune back to stock the other day for shits and giggles and only survived about a half hour on it before I had to switch it back on to the tune.
Don't remove your tune unless you like going slow. Keep up with your maintenance and your engine will be just fine.

I did stage 1 REVO at 40,000 miles and then added a Stasis exhaust, and 034 HFC and went to Stage 2 REVO at 60,000 miles . I now have 185,000 on my 2006 B7 A4 2.0T Q MT and no issues with the engine except regular maintenance.

You might want to think about upgrading your DV to a Forge. With the additional boost the plastic o-ring is more likely to bust.

Also, keep in mind that our cars come detuned from the factory.

Revo stg 2 with hfc downpipe, fmic. On settings b7 t6 f9 (euro 93 V-power) I the clutch started slipping literally on the way home after flashing it. On the upside, I've just been looking for the source for a problem and found the engine is in excellent shape. Nice even compression at 70k miles.

This is a heavy 4wd car, of course more power and hard launches will wear on the clutch.
