I don't know what the prices are in your country, in England the dealers are more expensive than local locksmiths. About a year ago I got my jacket stolen at Heathrow (with wallet and keys in it)...First thing I did is I called the dealer as I needed the car to go to work. They said they need to contact the manufacturers, apply for pin numbers, etc everything was going to take 1000 working days and cost over £300. It was too much hassle and the price was too much anyway, so i started researching different car key specialist companies. The best deal I got was £138 from http://autokeysquad.co.uk/ and they came and sorted me out the same day, at the time I chose. Price included everything: getting entry to the car, issuing a brand new genuine key, programming transponder, etc. So keep in mind that your options are multiple. Ive heard some of my friends saying that they've even bought second hand keys off ebay and then reprogrammed them themselves...so good luck

the best thing for you to do is find a used key on ebay (i bought one for $28 a while ago) such as these:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/AUDI-A3-A4-S...item336dd6b217

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Audi-SMART-O...item5645e46320

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/AUDI-A3-A4-S...item20be3ab373

you shouldn't have to pay more than $50 for one. people don't really bid on them anyway.

have the dealer reprogram the key for your car. it'll be $70-80 appx. some dealers might tell you that it's $70 regardless of whether or not the reprogramming works which i personally think is bs because you're paying for a service and the work should be guaranteed.

so that's appx $100-$130 for a working key fob. obviously the cut out section of the key won't work but who uses that anyway. you should still have the black plastic spare key the dealer gave you unless you lost that as well. i'm sure a brand new key from the dealer would cost upwards of $200.

I went in the dealer this past summer and asked them if they can reprogram a used key but apparently they cant reprogram a used key and i was quote around $170 for a brand new advance key with programming.

my dealer told me that there's a chance that reprogramming a used key may not work. if a brand new key with programming is $170 then there you go, op's answer.
