After following this DIY the roof rack never fit quite right. Granted, this was for a B6 I thought it ought to be close enough to the same. Well it was close, very close, but not quite close enough.
After work a couple days ago I got to tinkering. After taking the feet apart on the roof rack I noticed there was a lip on top of the adjuster plate. I simply shaved that lip down with a grinder and it gave me that extra ~8th of an inch I needed to have the bar mount properly. Since these racks are in the 100 buck range, I thought I'd post up. In the third picture you'll notice the end cap isn't flush - that is just a plastic cap that I need to trim. The bars sit perfectly.
Sorry, no pics of the grinding process but one you take the feet apart you'll see what I'm talking about clear as day. Not a bad price or finished product for 100 bucks and a couple of hours R&D!!
