B8/B8.5 VCDS & Hidden Menu: The Complete List

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've been trying to compile a complete list of VCDS mods specific for our S4 cars. I started going through the B8 A4 Cool VAG-COM codes thread but the info is spread over 30 pages and repeats or is trivial. AudiEnthousiasts has also started to put a list together organized by category for the A4. I like his idea but I think there's a need for a straight list of cool VAG-COM mods specific to our S4 and a detail how-to consice in one document.

Please note, I'm not trying to steal or take credit for these mods, I've simply used the information available throughout the web and tried to bring them in a central place. Your help in filling in a few blanks and validating my info would be appreciated.

*Suggestion: Print this and check off the mods you've activated and store it with your owner's manual - Will come handy when you need to re-do the coding after an ECU flash.

Here's the list I've compiled so far:
    • Disable After-wipe of windscreen wipers
    • Disable amber corner lights
    • Disable amber side markers
    • Disable Key warning (keyless models)
    • Disable LED 'wink' on turn signal

Again, I take no credit for this information, most of the above is available on these forums and specialty websites as well as Ross-Tech's support pages. I only wanted to group all the info of the pertinant VCDS mods to our S4.

Not all the above has been verified, I'll be happy to re-edit this post to correct any info.
Oh and I'm not responsible for any screw ups this causes, good luck.

Can I get a few volunteers to nominate this post as a sticky?

    I have on my car:

    Disable amber corner lights

And I also know of some others off the top of my head:

Change "Auto" settings to mirrow "Individual" so that you start the car in whatever mode you want
Enable fog lamp to come on for the same side as that turn signal (sort of like an extra light on that corner when turning)
Like a surgeon with a scalpel, my S4 is a precision instrument, with which I carve and dissect my way through traffic.

There is also a way via mmi that you can burn cd's to your hard drive directly. There is a thread somewhere on how to do it.

I believe there is also the A/C ventilation so that you can set the fan to come on before you enter the car. It's great for hot summer days. I have this in my BMW, and I love it.

I understood that this mod only works on the A5/S5 (w/o seat mem) because the control module is already there that allows the seat to move forward to let passengers into the back seats. No go for our S4s unless you have Prestige trim:[*]Seat Memory

TPMS is only standard on US cars, as it's required. Canada used to be SOL because it was a sensor in the vavle stem, now it uses the ABS system to monitor wheel rotations and changes in them at speed to determine differences in circumference due to pressure drops - and VCDS can enable it.

Efficiency is standard on 2011, it's there and hidden on 2010, but several had gotten MMI updates at their service interval which added this.

The LIGHTS ON has not been found yet, but you CAN tap the reset button that you use to toggle the DIS between screens and it will immediately silence this alarm.

I am not sure what enable speed via MMI is?

Does that show your speed on the LCD screen?

Anyone know if you can change (increase) the sensitivity of the automatic wipers via mmi? That would be GREAT!

Can't they be adjusted via the little button on top of the wiper stalk. I always thought that is what that thing did.

    Great thread - good work.

    Regarding "Set ADS to Individual"

You could include in the list setting them all to 01, 02 or 03 i.e. Comfort, Auto, Dynamic

There's also Rear Lights on with DRLs :

    [09 – Cent. Elect.] [Coding - 07] -> Long Coding Helper -> Byte 2
    Bit 7 - DRL's via Tail Lets Active (1 = Active)

Enable Import CDs to MMI's HDGo into Hidden Menu
    Main/Diagnose/Settings
    Import Media
    Set to 4 of 4 "Copy/Ripping"

Here's a combination of some I mentioned you couldn't find, one makes the DRL's 100% bright always, the other disables the amber sidemarker lights, allowing full bright DRL's with no front lights on while Parking lights are on:

    Enable DRL full bright
    - Module 9 - Central Electric
    - Secure Access (use access code 20113 to unlock this module for modification)
    - Choose Adaptation
    - Channel 3, change this value to 100 (which is percentage of the brightness for the DRL's, anything under 5 turns the LED's off and will generate an error code on the DIS)

Disable amber sidemarker with parking lights
    [09 – Cent. Elect.]
    [Coding - 07] -> [Long Coding Helper] -> Byte 10 Bit 3 - Change 1 to 0

Then you can remove the "LED's remain bright with Parking Lights" as could not find.

    What is this one?

    Enable DRL via LEDs active

Thanks, I'll remove the "LED's remain bright with Parking Lights" then. The "Enable DRL via LEDs" is to customize which lights (ie: LEDs, fog, etc) are used as DRL IIRC. The title is a little off and this is probably why I could not find my notes on this. I'll vag my car this week end and I update it.

Great list, thx! I already did most of it last week on my car, and I am still checking if all works.

This one you can add which is very convenient for peope who have Adaptive Cruise:

From the Auto distance regulation module 13, Adaptation, Channel 7, change 0 to 1

This gives you extra entry in MMI/ACC where you can change the default distance.

BTW: a question about some default settings when starting the car:
    - anybody knows how to get the AHA (hill hold) automatically ON (now you have to put it on every times again)?
    - same for high-beam assist?
    - same for showing preset Memory Radio (and TV) stations first (now it always starts with a list of available channels, but I want to use the memory presets always)
    TIA!

'high beam assist...' = auto hi-lo beam?? If so, that requires separate HW/SW, which by sound of things you don't already have. It uses CMOS Sensor & special algorithms - 'separate' option of Interior Mirror sub-assy - for detecting fwd (opposite lane) and rear (same lane) vehicle source lighting, also sensing for street lights, neon signs, you name it so as not to false adjust and adjusting beam height accordingly. It cannot be VAG'd, at least not in the true definition of intelligent headlamp control.

Sorry if my question was not clear: if already have high-beam assist (= auto-high beam) so all the hw is there and it work. The only question is: is it possible to have it on ALWAYS (now it is OFF by default, just like the AHA function and the list of radio stations is NOT on Memory view by default.....)

    TIA

My misunderstanding, however I don't have answer that you can act on:-(
Technically it's possible, I guess the 12V line to this high beam assist would need to be altered electronically from ON/OFF switch to constant on i.e. VAG control;-) or physically by modifying power line to 12V IGN line. You need smarter person than myself to advise - good hunting though:-)

    Enable DRL Selectable via MMI
    [09  Cent. Elect.] -> [Coding  07] -> Long Coding Helper -> Byte 3
    Bit 5 set to 1

What is it supposed to do? I tried this but didn't see anything different in MMI.

It would be great if we could set the wiper sensitivity more than the max that the wiper stalk adjuster can offer. I'm always at max setting as it is, and it would be nice to move the whole range up, so that my daily setting is in the middle. Can the sensitivity be adjusted by vagcom?

Bit 5 should enable/disable the MMI menu item for "Daytime running lights" under "Car->Exterior lighting"

Enable DSG gear displayed when in D or S in the DIS (thanks to kmjmrq - http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...=1#post6093594)

    [02 - Auto Transmission]
    [10 - Adaptation]
Use the drop down menu and scroll way down near the bottom and select Single Gear Display
In the lower drop down labeled "new," select D on/S on
Do it! - you will get a popup saying this is not a standard change and the would you like to use the generic Shop Code and the string is shown - accept this and it will rescan the module.

The DIS will now show Dx and Sx where "x" is the current gear you are in just like it should!

I love it, worked great, I literally went right out to my car and tried it immediately. I put in the extra parts about the Shop Code, as that was what I was prompted. Stupid that they made the default to hide it in the car, and it's still there. I even remember someone saying the talked to a guy from Audi AG, who said they knew the new DSG code removed this when they flashed the A3's back before the S4 came out in B8 flavor - he said they would not be making it change back, there was no way to easily in the code - hah!

This removes one of the small gripes I had about the DSG.

Tiptronic, S-Tronic (or DSG which is the name VW use) and Multitronic can all be coded - so it should work on your S5.

It works on my S5. It shows Dx and Sx. It is not showing the "gear advice" however, that was shown in my S5 coupe before (then it showed for instance D4->5, meaning it is advisable to change gear from 4 to 5).

Yes, the hardware buttons will still work to change to whatever ADS setting you like.

Incidentally, I think "Set ADS to Individual" is mislabeled since this code can be used to set the default ADS to any of those four settings, not just Individual. For example, I used code 03 - Dynamic to set Dynamic as the default setting.
