I did the oven method for my Mini cooper S Xenon Joey mod. I figured my Xenon run hotter than the Oven at 200F for 5 min. Not brave enough yet to do this on my S5 or A4 yet, I may have to try the heat gun method.

I did this with my 2006 4Runner. Used a heat gun to separate the fixture, blackhoused accordingly, then heat sealed everything back together.

Although, that was a 4runner. This is a $50k+ car where replacement parts are costly. Dammit. I want to do this mod this weekend...everything makes sense. It is also straight forward. :/

    Here are my results:

I was very timid at first. Taking the headlight fixture from the body was a bit of a pain for a couple minutes...a lot of wiggling and muscle. The headlight is fitted on tracks so it fits perfectly in the spot where it is supposed to go. Eventually, I could not get the freaking fixture separated with my heat gun. I was going over the sealant for probably 20 minutes without a budge. If I could have just got it open.....damn. Anybody have more experience with doing this sort of thing? The silicone didn't look like it was being phased at all, just a little bit of cracking but that was it. FML..once you have access to the inside of the fixture it is cake from there. When I did this on my T4R you could physically see the silicone melting and you could slowly start separating the lens cover from the fixture after maybe 5-6 minutes of consistent heat gunning. Excuse me if I am rambling, its in the morning hours, had a couple beers, staring at an lcd screen. I just want this to work!!!

oh goodness I wish I saw this post earlier so i could have stopped you guys. NO... for the A5/S5 our lights cannot be taken apart. They are made by Valeo, and is a different manufacturer from the A4 headlights. The new glue that Valeo uses for our lights is really stubborn stuff.... you'll likely be melting and moulding your plastic before that glue gives in. Even if you do manage to pry them apart I can't imagine what they'll look like when you're ready to re-assemble them. You may end up with sealing issues, and the shape may even become warped. I tried and tried... luckily I was able to experiment with a set of old non-LED headlights that no one wanted so I didn't wreck my own. It wasn't long after that I just invested in a set of ecodes.

I think the problem is that you're drinking Coors and Budweiser.

Well there's the issue. The headlights can not be taken apart because they are made by Valeo, end of story.

    E-codes it is.
