Hey guys just curious as to what you've been quoted labor-wise to replace your clutch and flywheel. Finally got my brakes done and now my clutch is starting to slip...

are you a DIY'er?? ..that would be my suggestion. im guessing like 13 hrs labor is what a shop would charge.. that or more...so probably 1100-1400 bucks labor plus parts..

hahaha I forget the name of the shop only been there once but the guy got my clutch and flywheel in the shop friday morning and had it done that after noon so he knew what he was doing. I'm just saying how much it cost me but if Auresu1 looks around he should be able to find something under a grand.

Find someone that will charge you 60 bucks an hr because they will prolly charge you up to 13hrs labor. Its a pretty extensive job. Otherwise expect to pay up to 1100+ plus cost of parts. Make sure flywheel is resurfaced or you buy new flywheel or your going to have a slipping or poor operating clutch soon after the job is done.

$400-$500 labor max at german shop. Everything except flywheel is $350 and it takes about 2.5 hours.

I can help out with a Southbend clutch and LWFW Setup. The parts are in stock at our warehouses and ready to ship, unlike other companies.

I'm taking my lunch break right now from changing a clutch and flywheel in an A6 2.7t, just about to put the trans back in. If you have a lift it really doesn't take that long, however, I can tell you that book time for changing a clutch on a S4 or A6 2.7t is 16.6 hours. That should give you a reference to see what other shows charge.

The funny part is that once you have a lift and tranny jack, the book time is pure abstraction and an example of how to overcharge people. With the lift+jack, you're literally looking at fairly straightforward job:

    - undo bellhousing/started bolts, 8-10 total?
    - undo slave cylinder - 1 bolt
    - undo both front axles - several bolts each
    - undo prop shaft - several bolts
    - undo your shifter box from inside of car, it will come down with the tranny.
    - disconnect two sensors (maybe three, don't remember)
    - down it goes, watch for O2 sensor wires, some might be zip tied to tranny.

Rest is very quick and simple clutch swap:

    - undo 6 pressure plate bolts, clutch pops right off.
    - undo 8 flywheel bolts
    - new parts install is reverse of above but observe torque ratings (use new bolts for flywheel and pressure plate!) and use alignment tool and putting pressure plate back on.

Do input shaft seal while at it, takes 5 minutes with 4.5 minutes of thinking how to get at it if this is your first time.

Even with pulling the engine out with tranny you could easily take less than 16.6h.

That's a great way to look at it. It doesn't involve any real technical abilities, just basically unbolting stuff and then putting it all back together.

But FYI, I contacted AP Tuning and they quoted me 1100-1200 for the job with an RS4 clutch kit and resurfaced flywheel. They said that it was an 8-9 hour job on the book.
