Check battery status with vag-com (quite useful)

Hi there, as some of you know Iīve been having problems with my battery level lately( going down ), so I thought it was time to take a deeper look into this with my cable, the thing is that I discovered some intersting data which proves my battery is far from its best...I would like to check my results with any of you if possible. To check the battery condition on your cars you should do the following thing:

    Go to MODULE 19 (CAN-GETAWAY)

    MEASURE BLOCKS-Select GROUPS 18,19 AND 20

Youīll get something like this, which reflects your battery condition in detail...so long!

Thanx, you got it now! ..yeah,it looks much better as far as charge is concerned, thereīs also a difference in MMI battery state and real state ,it happens in mine as well, donīt know really why....maybe thatīs the reason why it comes de-activated ,cause itīs not too accurate

Yea that's probably true. I would think that if anything they'd bump it down a couple of percent for the MMI display just as a safety factor. Either way, I don't think the battery level indicator is useful at all since mine always shows 100%. The VCDS data is great though. Easy to get and in depth.

I tried this today and I agree with the above. What's the point in the battery meter if it's gonna lie? Perhaps that's why Audi didn't turn it on! hehehe

My State of Charge compared to the MMI is crazy

Well, Scotty (You the same one as in vwaudiforum.co.uk?) your battery is quite well taking into account that itīs reporting a temperature of -4 degrees!!!!! Maybe the difference between MMI and the real state of charge is because the MMI takes into account other parameters as well , such us the battery capability for starting the car...donno really,

    Yep I'm the same Scotty.

You could be right. But if the battery is low due to weather or whatever then if you have keft juice in it then surely it should be shown.

I've just had the 3G software upgrade and since it was plugged up at Audi I've lost all my VCDS changes. When I reapply them I'm not sure the battery one is even worth doing.

Iīm sure your real state of charge is far below that 70% you see there, check the measure blocks to see it, never trust that meter anymore in my case !!!!

I've also enabled the battery level menu in my car, but I've never seen any other value than 100%..

I can see other values in VCDS:

Seems to me that the MMI battery level indicator does not work (maybe something more is needed in addition to enabling the menu option through the hidden menu in MMI?)..

I think that what we have on the MMI is an indication of the battery condition, rather than the battery level...but for more precise data you just check it with Vagcom and thatīs all

The MMI level indicator works just fine. Look at blocks 1 and 2. 1 is actual SOC. 2 is what will be shown on the MMI regardless of the actual SOC. What we need is to find out what value needs to be in block 2 for the block 1 values to show in MMI.

I was going to see if I could find coding to swap what is in the MMI but I fear it would be a huge ghost hunt. The Gateway just shows information and has no control over what is displayed. So the information on the MMI could be programmed in a number of hiding places. Somethings just aren't worth the disappointment of 6 hours of failed attempts.

What a pity then, it would be great to have the "real state of charge" indication on the MMI instead of the one we have...anyway Audi disabled this option for this car and this has to be the reason, to avoid misleading info

    Dear All,

I see here you are discussing a battery problems.
Currently i replaced the fourth battery on my Audi and i well coded it.
I saw in a forums somebody says it must be telephone.
I have installed Led tail light in my both Audi A4 B8 ( i have 2 of them) and one is perfect this one is really bringing me troubles.(Problem happened 3 months after i installed LED tail lights)
During the drive it fills the battery 100 % when i stop the car during night it discharge into 10-15 %.
I went to some services they said battery, i changed it again same problem.
Other said Led tail lights , i disconnected and put the original Audi tail lights , same problem.

Can anybody help me where to check , i have Vcds and cable but there is not any malfunction during auto scan or where should be the problem?

Hmmmm.... when I go into Module 19 (CAN-Gateway) -> Measure Blocks -> Groups 18,19,20 no number values appear for any of the battery readouts. Anyone else encounter this? I have not replaced the battery yet so my battery has been running since April 2009. Maybe I should just replace it without finding out what's its present battery life.

Anyone know how accurate this meter is?
I turned this on recently and it was at 100%, now it just dropped to something like 40% over night.
I did have dash cam running over night for 8 hours or so (blackvue 530) but it is hard to believe that would drain the battery from 100 to 40...?

Based on your battery voltage your battery is considered discharged (11,7V is considered flat). If this is as high as it gets after being fully charged you should definitely change it.

However, if your battery gets charged to approximately full capacity (note how your battery's internal resistance is still quite low) when using a charger, but gradually looses charge despite having a driving-pattern in which the battery should get charged you might want to look at how well your generator is performing.

The best discussion I know of about this is here. I read this and:

    1. Realize how little I know
    2. Guys who know more than I do really discount the value of blocks 18, 19 & 20 as predictors of battery life

    https://forums.ross-tech.com/showthr...nation-request

What I do know is that I have a little round sticker on my Audi brand battery that says 1/17. I assume the previous owner had the dealer put that in 2 1/2 years ago. If I hover the cursor over block 19, "Battery Aging (derived fr. load)" I get this little pop-up. Does that mean my battery is about half done? I dunno. Sure reconciles with it's age if the 1/17 sticker is right.
