Window regulator ** what's the real problem here?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ready to install a new regulator this weekend, but will it really solve my issue? ... My window will slide up and down smoothly, but on the way up it tends to reverse itself, just as it would if it detected a hand in the way and reversed itself and went back down. Both fronts do this, and I'm wondering if some sensor is messed up, perhaps because of the tint causing more friction? As I read other regulator-related posts now, it seems other have crunching sounds and other problems that I don't... no clicks, pops, crunches, growls or anything like that. Could my problem be something else?

The window film may be part of the problem, but try resetting the pinch protection limit first. To do this, Starting from a closed window, press the DOWN window switch and run the window down part way. Next, press the UP window switch and run the window all the way up, release the UP window switch, then press the window switch in the UP direction again and hold for 5 to 10 seconds then release the UP window switch. Test the window one touch DOWN and UP, if that was the problem, it should be working correctly again. If not, then the window glass or the window regulator is most likely binding up somewhere. Reset the other windows pinch protection the same way.

^I agree. Try the reset first.

The auto-reverse function is also based on the torque load on the motor. If there is too much friction, the motor will draw too much and reverse direction. This is the pinch-protection aspect. For this type of problem, the first step is to lubricate the window track with some silicone spray as best you can. If that doesn't help, some of the drag can come from the regulator assembly tracks itself. In that case greasing the tracks (after a good inspection for common failure points) or replacement of the regulator would be the repair.

The window tracks should be lubed as part of regular maintenance. *Nobody* does this. This extra load over time can cause extra wear on the regulator, accelerating it's (inevitable?) failure.

I would take the door panel off first and test again and see if it duplicates itself... just to do process of elimination. I know when I replaced my window regulator it was doing the same because I had my window off the track a bit when I installed the window regulator back on. So I had to take the whole process off again and re-adjust the window.

    Great DIY:

Bumping up this thread as I am having problem with my front driver side window.

My front driver side window is acting up, everything is working fine except I lost the power to put my window up without using "auto"

I tried all the windows and they are all working perfectly fine. It is only the driver side that I don't have the full control of. I'll have to use the auto feature to bring the window up.
Do you guys think resetting it will resolve my problem?

    TIA!

Note, you may have some frayed wires in your harness (common issue on frequently used doors). Try pulling back the harness where the door meets the body and check the smaller wires. I had to repair both my drivers and RR door wires. You can purchase new door harness as well but it is rather costly. However, you should try the reset as other have suggested first.

Francis, curious to see if anything happens after you try resetting this. Because my drive window is doing the exact same thing as the O/P.
