    B7 Subwoofer install. Need Help/Opinions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
(yes ive searched and couldnt find enough info)

Im thinking about install some subs in my A4. I was just wondering how hard of a job it is, the types of wires I need, what to tap into, etc. Im not great with electrical mods so Im wondering if I would be able to do this mod on my own.
I think Im getting 2 10" Pioneer TS-W258D2|D4's and a Pioneer GM-D9500F amp (my uncle works at Pioneer and can get me their products cheaper). How do you think this setup will sound with my stock Symphony II+?

Also please post what setups you guys are running, how it sounds, and some pics of your boxes. Thanks

It is not too hard if you use a line level converter and tap off the wires going to the bose sub. then you of course need a power wire going back from the battery, as well as a turn on wire.

Make sure you dissable the Bose Auto-Pilot system as it will confuse the extra bass for road noise and it will unexpectedly crank the volume on you.

I like your car. I'm also considering this but I'm going to redo the whole system (my front speaker is blown).

b6joes4 is correct with everything he says, if you spend a extra doll hairs on a better amp there are some that come with built in line converters and you dont have to mess around with an external one, you just flip a switch from low current input to hi current input and the amp does the rest

sub install is wicked easy and if you go to a4mods.com it has a great DIY that will work for what you are talking about

being frank, if you have little experience with electrical/sound system installation I would advise you to have a professional do it. It is not very difficult to do it, if you feel comfortable to do it, try it out.

you can search online how to install it.

You'd have to remove the trim pieces in the trunk to access the subwoofer amplifier on the right side of the trunk. From their you simply splice in your RCA cables to the rear right from radio and rear left from radio; then splice into the amp on/off wire.

By higher quality RCA cables since, they have more wire strands and the strands themselves are thicker. They are much easier to work with then cheap cables.

Running the power cable was a pita btw. You have to poke the power cable through the firewall liner, remove your glove box, at least loosen all the lower trim that runs along the door, and remove your bottom back seat cushion.

I did mine differently and ran the power under the door trim and fished it under the b pillar trim.

Do you happen to know what dimensions they are? I'm thinking about upgrading my system since one of my speakers is blown anyway. I'd sort of like to have all the factory locations filled plus a sub.
