How is the VMR wheel quality nowadays? easy bending?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just want to get some insight from you guys running more recent VMR wheels. How is the quality? How are they holding up? Did you hit any hard deep potholes or bumps in road/highway? How did the wheels survive?

I had vmrs in the past and those are sitting in my garage bent to hell and with a crack on spoke.

Worth the risk or not? Live in nyc.

Also post what size you're running

From what I've read, the quality of VMR wheels is greater than that of any other Reps. Keep in mind though that even if the quality is great if not greater than, the larger 19"+ wheels are going to be easier to bend/crack. Just like any other wheel out there on the market. Especially in a city like NYC. Name of the game is being careful and upkeep.

They are a great choice if you cant afford the real thing, but i personally think they are great if you are on a budget, quality however, im not too sure. The coating on my started peeling after 8 months and was not pleased with it.

I just bent one of my VMR wheel, I hit a hole but I am not sure how deep it was since it was dark / rainy and they fixed the hole the next day... My wheel does not seem cracked and do not shake but it is easy to see where it is bent... It is really frustrating but it is the first time in my live I bend I wheel...

I will probably buy a new wheel otherwise fixing it I will not be able to match the color of the other wheels and repainting all wheels will cost more than a new wheel...

For the finish of the wheels (mine are powder coated) after 2 year it is holding well. There is one small spot that did peel the first year on one wheel but it was probably just a defective area since elsewhere it is holding well.

I am really happy with my VMR quality vs. price is good but I still do wish they were stronger/lighter but I guess we cannot expect that at that price.

Do I regret getting the VMR? Absolutely not
Will I still consider VMR in the future? YES of course

I am glad you don't regret it.. Now let me tell you, What I have seen/heard and experienced is that by Powder Coating your wheels, you actually WEAKEN their strength factor. Not sure If this is also a factor in the VMR wheels as my wheels were not VMR. Something to Keep in mind.

I do not see how I weaken their strenght factor since they are powdercoaded from factory. Newer desing VMR are powdercoated.

Repair / repaint wheels can weaken them if the shop over sandblast them.

    Thanks for the support everyone!

Remember, all VMR Wheels are JWL/VIA certified and produced in a proper ISO approved facility. We've had countless customers run even our 19" wheels in the NYC area with success. With large diameter wheels, thus lower profile tires, watching for potholes is truly the name of the game. As someone suggested, larger diameter wheels can bend, regardless of brand, due to thinner tires. If wheel damage is a large concern, 18" wheels would be recommended though it is worth noting, some customers do run the 19's.

If anyone has any questions about VMR Wheels, feel free to contact any of our vendors, or contact me directly via PM/email!

I would guess the are powder coated since they are newer than my V713 but the only way to know for sure is to ask VMR.

I don't understand how powder coating would weaken the wheel. Can you elaborate?

If powdercoating isn't done properly, meaning that you heat it up way too much, then its true you might weaken the wheel. Keep in mind that countless OEM wheels are powdercoated from the factory and so the key factor is to make sure your powdercoater knows how to powder a wheel.

Most of our wheels have a powdercoated clear giving the wheels a higher shine and better protection from the elements.

    Thats all :)

Had my 19" V708's on for over a year and half and only bent one which was fixed 2 days later for 85$. IMO VMR wheels are of great quality for the price and my next purchase will be the V710's. I hit some diesel shits on woodhaven Blvd... Grand Central PKWY and a monster Road bump in the middle of the belt PKWY by JFK ... The car got airborne for about 2 seconds and slammed the ground hard... I pulled over thinking I blew every fucken Tire and cracked all rims but every rim was in good shape... I mean if they survived that... Im sold! Lol

Like others on this thread I too am an NYC'er.....my VMR's (1.5years old) have held up terrific on our land mined roads. I have one slight bend but I can't see how I couldn't have that bend due to the cavern my wheel went in to on the 59th street bridge.

If I buy another set of wheels I'd buy another set of VMR's in a heart beat.

dude you live in nyc... I don't think there is any wheel in the world that could survive those potholes unless its an off road vehicle lol. I've seen Ferrari wheels bent to hell on those streets. You should know if your running a low profile tire in NYC, your wheels will most likely get bent.

You'd be surprised at the lack of knowledge out there, actually. Many don't realize standardized strength tests are performed for wheels and some manufacturers don't actually publish material on the subject. It's always reassuring knowing something has passed a "crash test" industry standard, hence why I tend to mirror the concept with the question of wheel strength arrises.

This is true, I've bent the stock 18" S Line wheels and I dodge every single pothole I see and weave through traffic to avoid rough or uneven surfaces. 19's are just not compatible with the roads here. Or anywhere in the northeast where snow and ice break up the road surface. The only way I would have nice wheels is if I lived in Florida, California, Texas.
