A4 B6 - How to renew interior parts (middle console coating)?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Recently I bought A4 year 2003, and first thing that I've noticed is worn middle console edges arround handbrake and lighter. Passenger side is worn a lot. Is there a way to renew that part to look like new? Interior color is gray and worn place is very ugly because base plastic is black.

yeah, buy new ones. lol. if you had a black interior it may have been possible to get it to look decent, but you will never get a good enough color match on the other colors. not to mention that there is no good touch up coating for the parts that i know of. If you want the interior to look good, buy a new console, new climate control unit, headlight switch, and window switches as needed. sorry for the bad news

yea its much easier to replace some of the smaller parts such as the window switches and surround, the headlight switch, and the A/C unit, but the center console is obviously a larger project. It can definitely be done though. As of now, there is no real touch-up paint to match the rubbery platinum grey coating.

So you're telling me that you can replace the AC part of the center console? My raise temp button (+) isn't working anymore on the drivers side, you need to pretty much pound on the thing to get it to raise the temp. Sucks in the wintertime!!

I can't even use the passenger one because of dual climate control >=|

Yes you can easily replace it with a new unit. Pull out the radio and the climate control unit should come out easily. Use the part number on it to find a direct replacement

adjust with the pasanger's side then hit the "auto" button above that side. that will do it.

And you can remove the coating and the paint will be the same color (or very close) underneath, yes but you will lose the rubbery feeling.

be careful though. even water can make the rubber/paint peel off, let alone alcohol.

dont know about B6 interiors but this seemed to work pretty well and made my buttons feel like new again, If you want add a tiny amount of water to dilute the rubbing alcohol, I would suggest you purchase a rubbing alcohol with no more than 70% isopropyl alcohol. try it on a small area wait an hour and see what it looks like.

set them to the same temperature via the passenger side, hold down the AUTO button for 2 seconds, then adjust via the passenger side. they should be synced. you can also turn AUTO off after this.

Yeah, that crossed my mind but searching in ETKA for a new console part didnt give any results. Does anyone have part number or ETKA aplication to look for it? I cant find it my self. As you know ETKA have part numbers and images of the last screw from many car makes and models but didnt find anything about central console.

Audi is too smart for their own good on this. I use auto all the time but once a passenger adjusts the temp on their side the sync is lost. Pretty sure others are the same too.

That's because you didn't synced climate control on passenger side. Do the sync like other told you with push and hold auto button on passenger side and then the both sides are set over passenger control buttons.

would you guys recommend painting entire console (if black) with plasti-dip, I personally think with good prep and cleaning it should work =] opinions welcomed.

I did plasti dip on my peeling console. It looked better and is a close match kind of. I then switched to a b7 console for the cup holders. B7 console ftw.

You can go with plasti dip, however the color won't match and over time, the plasti dip will end up be coming off...
The what I and the guy above me did and go with the B7 console... No soft rubber coating that will peel over time and as the B7 gets older, they are becoming more common and cheaper to get ..

A4 B6 - How to renew interior parts (middle console coating)?

I would just get a B7 console. I did pick up some paint said to match perfectly before. It is rustolem(sp) Matt camo paint that Old Guy found. Might look that up to be sure. I'll find my can later today.

I solved the problem with my console. Sold b6 and bought b8 s-line. No rubber coating anywhere in the car. ;)
