    Accidentally put in 87 Octane?

I went on a trip to the states somewhere in late August and I filled up my car at some sketchy Sunoco (forgot which location) with some 93 octane.

Back at home now, I recently started putting in 94 octane and it felt night and day compared to the 93 octane I got from that Sunoco.

So I have been wondering, could they have given me 87 instead of 93? When I floored it with the "93" octane, the engine struggles to rev pass 4,000 rpm and not only did I not feel an increase in power, but it was more like a decrease; it was a sluggish feeling.

I did some research and oil companies or the states don't really reinforce what gas stations supply, they just do random audits from time to time.

    What do you guys think?

Some gas pumps in the US are sketchy. They probably did water it down.

If you did get some 87 or less than 91 octane gas, no big deal, you'll suffer some sluggish performance until the next time you fill up again. You're computer will handle the misfires or knocking by cutting back the performance of the engine, which is probably what you were experiencing.

Well, it was back in August like you said. Another possibility would be the soaring heat your ECU sees via the IAT sensor, due to that, your ECU will pull timming/boost or btoh. If gas station was to be caught selling lower octane as high octane fuel, they will be in big trouble.
