    Question Q5 Brake Pads

    HI.

My Brake Pads warning light just came on. I have only 22K miles on the car but dealer is saying that it's normal for Q5.
I'm thinking of doing that service not at the dealer. Does anyone know what size pads I need?
    Brake pads - 320x30mm - 320x30mm or Brake pads - 345x29.5mm - 345x29.5mm for a 2009 Q5.
Also, what else do I need - Just the pads and the sensor?

Will the warning light go away on it's own once the sensor is replaced? Or does the dealer need to changes something in the system.

    Thanks!

Not sure about the size of the pads but I just had to replace mine at 23,000 miles. I haven't replaced tires yet even.

I think I'll replace mine with some Hawk pads. Less dust.

Anyone have a DIY for the pad removal? Done plenty on BMW but never on a Q5 set up.

I have had very good luck with EBC Red Stuff pads. Better grip and low dust. Just installed a set on the TT and will be doing the same on the wife's 2011 Q5.

I'm looking to do a DIY on my wife's 2010 Q5 3.2. Is there a DIY anywhere online to walk through this?

    Thanks,

Stay away from Hawk Pads. I put Hawk Ceramics on my OEM rotors, and after 20,000km this is what happened. To explain the video, I hold the wheel when I accelerate, then let go and brake to show how warped the rotors are.

From what I know and have experienced the Pads won't warp rotors. Need to use a torque wrench when installing wheels.Never use the air impact guns as they will wreck rotor faster than one could imagine. Rotors can also warp from being over heated usuually caused by severe ,continuous hard braking or using the brake pedal as a foot rest..Once they are warped toss them out and buy new. Rotors today are so thin you can't resurface them properly. Just not enough metal on them .
