Help - Side Mirrors won't fold using mirror switch

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I took my car in to get washed and detailed yesterday, and I could not get the side mirrors to fold-in using the mirror switch (placing switch in the 6 o'clock position). This is the first time I have experienced this. I've tried multiple times now, and it just won't work. Any ideas?

Car is still under warranty so I'll take it back in to the dealership if need be.

If he did, they wouldd obviously not be covered under warranty.... (which the open claims they are...)

Wow, talk about jumping to conclusions!!! My car is a 2009 S-Line and it came with folding mirrors from the factory. The switch has 3 positions: left mirror, defrost, right mirror BUT if you turn the switch so that the white position indicator is at the 6 o'clock position, the mirrors will fold inwards. Not joking, been doing it forever up until last week.

John, I won't call you a liar but must say I'm highly skeptical since I've never seen or heard of a NA B8 A4 coming from the factory with auto folding mirrors. I feel like there's something you are "forgetting" to tell us.

^^I feel the same way too. But there is also a possibility that he special ordered his ride? Because I did at the time and I had to wait 9 months for mine to come my way.

I ordered mine as well (every option except ADS and adaptive cruise control) and can assure you there was no option for folding mirrors.

I am sorry if I sounded confrontational.
However, like Blake said, no NA B8 A4 (even fully loaded) has ever come with automatic folding mirrors..
Obviously I know you are not lying... I sound to me that you got lucky in receiving them...

Did you dealer mentiion anything about them? Am I wrong in saying that you cannot get an A4 in NA with autofolding mirrors?

I thought with the replacement mirrors and switch part replacement it was something like 800$ USD ?

Either way, i'm curious too, since it's a mod i would eventually like to do, and i have never heard, nor was given an option to get folding mirrors on my 2010.

If there's no "Arrow" and a pic of a mirror in that position, then no it's not equipped with them. You may have gotten lucky and gotten a car with the equipment in it from the factory accidentally but if it's dead, that's not something they'll warranty as it won't show in the PR codes.

Wouldn't it be odd that they were enabled in the cars software though? I could see accidentally installing power mirrors but you'd think if they went through the trouble of masking the switch they would also disable them through vag com (or whatever they use).

Do you have folding mirror option in MMI? Do you have folding mirror switch with symbol? If not, you do not have factory installed folding mirrors. I upgraded, you need mirror housings, switch, light ring, clips, etc + vag coding to enable.

    A thought

My theory......a technician used the vag com during his last service and accidentally turned it off.

Since we're on the topic - my mirrors won't fold if the car is moving - 20kmph and higher. This was factory fitted in Asia. Is this always the case? Dealer said - yes but wasn't too sure. If this is the case, can VAGCOM allow for the folding to happen at higher speeds?

Most likely.....and sounds logical. (Although apples to oranges: My VW Touareg mirrors did fold in while driving once when I accidently turned the mirror knob IIRC)

Why would you want to fold them in anyways while moving at speeds faster than a crawl?

you tube india traffic and you'll know why. lol. My CRV folds/opens the mirrors at any speed as well as the Benz (C). Its just the Audi which has this low speed restriction. Would VAGCOM allow for it to be changed?
