    allroad jacking up mode?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
What's the allroad jacking up mode all about? It tells you in the manual before the car is raised on a jack to put it in jacking up mode?

Last week in the tyre shop they just jacked it up & removed the wheel to do the balancing.

I'm going to test fit some alloys today so wondered if it's necessary?

If the vehicle is not in Jack Mode there is a greater danger of damaging the shock absorbers/pneumatic dampers/other parts.

    The jacking mode is simple

-make sure you are in level 2

-with the car not running but the key is in the accessory pos

-hold down the up and down buttons together

you can be in any level, definitely put the car in Jack Mode. it locks the suspension into a fixed level, so the car does not attempt to level itself while being lifted. If you continually jack it without lock the suspension, you likely screwup the compressor, bags and sensors. As stated, just hold down the up and down buttons at the same time until the dash icon illuminates.

I used the jacking mode when test fitting the wheels, have to make sure garages do the same in the future.

Is this also necessary when putting the car on a lift?

I was under the impression the keys had to be in the on position for the car to begin the leveling process. Is that not the case?

My AR will adjust for my trailer when i put it on there when the car is in the off position. you can here the rear bags inflate after adding the weight. sometimes it will do it when you are sitting on the back as well.

So if an Allroad is sitting in a parking lot with one corner dipped down all the way, this would imply that the pump is burned out?

No, it only implies that the bag in question has gone bad. The car will self level without ignition on (parked) only if there is still pressure in holding tank. The car will not start the pump without ignition on to re-fill the tank. Hence a leaky bag will cause the tank to run out of air eventually due to auto adjustment and that corner will sag.

Can anyone think of a good reason that Audi wired the allroad so that the suspension can still adjust itself without the keys in the ignition? In my opinion, this makes no sense and is somewhat retarded. There wouldn't have to be a jack mode and the concerns that go with it if the suspension just stayed where it was when the car is shut off.

A funny thing happened yesterday morning when I went out to the car, the front was dropped right down. It's ok this morning & hasn't happened before. So after me putting it in jacking mode that day, jacking it up to fit wheels etc the front suspension dropped over night, I hadn't driven it either after fitting wheels, just left it on the drive. I had to put it in jacking mode like four times that day to change wheels & the last time I did it I left the engine running?

I know the only time i really found to front being down is when i forgot jacking mode when i went to do an oil change. After dropping it off of the jack the front bags were deflated.

I'm in the UK and my allroad has new Arnott air suspension and a new compressor, yet I can just leave it on the drive for a couple of weeks when I'm not driving it, and the suspension will drop all round. I can't imagine faulty Arnott's or the new compressor, so what's my problem. Any advise would be really appreciated, and my battery will drain flat too. I've owned the car since 2009, and I"m on my 3rd battery, and I never buy cheap nasty batteries either, Bosch Silver, Exide deep cycle, and I can't remember the one on at the moment, but it was around the £100 mark, thats about $140.

    Thanks in advance.

You have either a ground issue or it is short circuiting somewhere from a frayed wire touching metal. Or something is not turning off & draining the battery.

So I took my 2001 allroad to get front and rear wheel alignment. I mentioned the "Jack mode" 3 times! When I went to pick it up the drivers front bag was popped! Now they are claiming no fault, it was worn and if he doesn't find a "cut" (presumably from a tool) then it's not there fault 😬 Can anyone else verify that of the car was not on "Jack mode", then that would cause the air bag to pop. Also, should the other side be replaced at the same time? This is going to be way more expressive, and I'm just wanting to verify the failing to use the Jack mode would cause this popped shock air bag

Sounds like you should take them to small claims court. That's messed up.

Technically, yes but who wants to spend any energy revisiting the total BS. I have a motorcycle service business, 15 years now, and if I mess up, I own it, fix it, learn from it. Ironically he wants me to repair a bike be has... So I might be able to recover some of my money, but I'm still working for it. I looked at the popped drivers front air spring, the alignment shop said it was original (it was not because Audi had the 4 rings on the factory air springs) he claimed because there was not visible tool cut, that it just "happened" to fail when the worked on the car! I repeated the "Jack mode" three times to the manager, but I should of said it again to the tech who actually worked on the car. It's very clear to me, he did not put it in "Jack mode" and the lowered shock kept pressurizing to equalize the suspension and consequently over-pressured the air spring. 🤪
