My Build Thread! 2010 Meteor Grey B8 S4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have had my car for just over 2 months now and am finally ready to start some mods. First off, I love the car and have only great things to say about it so far. I have put about 4000 miles on it and look forward to hoping in every morning for my daily commute. I welcome feedback on the car and I have a lot of questions because this is the first car that I own that I will be moding so here goes nothing. I shot these pics today at the worst possible time so sorry about the lighting.

The first thing that I am going to do is install lamin-x covers on my headlights and brakelights and install LED interior lights. I will be doing that this weekend and posting pictures. I have already installed fog light covers (as you can see in the pics) and I would love some honest feedback. I don't use my fog lights that often so I am not sure if an HID kit or bulbs would be worth it but let me know what you think of the fog lights to start!

Not sure if i like that blue-ish tint on your fog lights.. but if you like it that's what matters.

What i do like is the lamin X head light and taillight mod you are planning. Cause i'm going to do the same thing with my car.
    Get those windows tinted also.

Car is nice but i would tint the fogs and headlights with smoke or something... the blue on the fogs is a little wierd on this car. It would probably look better on a benz because their windows come with a light tint blue as well

Tip for installing the lamin-x - get it really wet despite the instructions saying lightly mist... Also if you have a heat gun, or even a high powered hair dryer, that will help too.

Fogs look good. Pretty subtle so not too big of a deal.

First thing I did was debadge my V6T on my meteor, like it better without that. Although I did just buy supercharged badges :P
I'm eager to see how the laminX looks on meteor

Sorry if this is a noob question... but do you mean actually tint the rubber window trim? Do you have a picture of this completed?

Do you mean get the headlight really wet? I did have some trouble with the fogs but it was more because the surface isn't big enough for a squeegee. I did use a heat gun and agree it will help!

I will be tinting the silver trim around the windows and fog lamps. I think I am going to go for the titanium look, minus the wheels.

Hmmm.. Still not sure what you mean. Guess I'll just have to wait to see...

Either way, good luck with everything and I am looking forward to following your progess. Are you thinking of getting the blackout grille? Interested to see what this looks like on Meteor, it would probably look good with your lamin-x lights.

I mean putting a vinyl on it. I am trying to decide between matte and glossy black though. I am planning on getting the grille when I can afford it :P You and me both. I can't find anyone else that has moded a Meteor so I'm glad I'm exploring new territory.

I bought them from Lamin-x's site, so they were pre-cut, but I had to do some major trimming on them.

Yes, the kit comes with a misting bottle (Lamin-x), and you wet the headlight before applying the film, it says to spray once or twice on the headlight - I recommend getting it more wet than this, and of course having the heat gun handy, both in combination will get you perfect application.

How about exhaust, intake, cat pipes, coilovers, wheels, sway bars, APR Tune, etc.....?

I saw headers somewhere I think as well as some other more hardcore stuff.

I am looking at an exhaust, strat intake, the Stasis suspension package, and I dont know what else performance wise. If I get a tune, I will probably go with the Stasis one once I see some numbers. I would welcome recommendations on cat pipes, sway bars, and coilovers though. Wheels are a pretty low priority for me because I like the 19s and would rather put money in other things right now.

Okay, installed my Lamin-X on the headlights and break lights and interior LEDs yesterday. Thank you to those of you who posted advice on installing both of those. Here are my initial thoughts... and pictures of course.

Lamin-x: I really like the lamin-x and think that it makes the car look very good. The install is easy but it definitely helped having someone to help me so I would recommend that. I read in another thread here that someone saw purple on their headlights and I would just like to say that mine are NOT doing that, they look fine. I do not think that the headlights takes away form the very cool headlights that are already there. That said, I did go with the lightest tint possible for both sets of lights, and I am glad I did.

Here is a comparison picture of the headlights. The one on the right has the lamin-x on it. I would absolutely recommend working with the hood up, it made it much easier. (sorry for the crappy iPhone pics which are about half of the ones in this post)

Comparison on the tail lights. I think that during the day, the lights look just barely tinted but at night, look pretty dark which gives the car a lot of definition.

Interior LEDs (all ordered from Superbrightled.com): My whole goal of this was to not have a cabin that lit up like the sun, but I did want something that was unique and a cool white. I had some trouble with the lights that I ordered from Superbrightleds.com so I have returned those and ordered the thunderdomes. It is actually a good deal because it includes the ones for the floods for the doors as well. I installed superbrights for my license plate and I am really happy with those. I will post pics next time it gets dark.

    vanity mirror light before

    vanity mirror light after

I will post some better pics of the Lamin-x as soon as I get a chance to go out. Let me know what you think!

Yes I know and I have a bit of an unhappy update. I like everything about the lights, and it met all of my expectations with color but I do have an issue. I looked into the thunderdomes originally and decided against it because I was looking for a customizable system. Here is the problem I am having and maybe you can tell me if you think it is because of the lights. I know that the lights stay on at a very low percentage when I am driving but I did not realize that they stayed on like that while the car was off (I thought they turned off when the power turned off because that is what happened when I flipped the switch on the dome light, I was wrong). The past 2 times that I have gotten in the car after it has sat for 1 hour or more, my backup camera has not turned on for at least 5 minutes. Could this be due to the lights?

    Does the thunderdomes do this?

I have had occurrences when the back-up camera does not come on as well. I would imagine that this problem is not connected to your lights. I should mention that my car is a 2010 S5.

Yes I would agree but I think that it's funny that it happens the day after I install my lights. I have had the car for a couple months and had no issues until today. I am going to take them out tomorrow and see if that fixes it. I only think its the dome/map lights and or the trunk lights. I believe that the vanity, glove box, and trunk are fine.

The only LED lights I've installed are the license plate lights from Tunerdomes. Where in San Diego are you?

I am up in Carlsbad, you? I think I am might just leave the ones that I already have in the license plate lights because I know that those were not causing a problem and they are just as bright as the thunderdomes.

It was all really easy to install. I am switching out some of my bulbs this weekend with the thunderdomes. I can do a DIY if that would help. Installing all of them took me about 40 minutes and I was messing around with them to make sure that they did not blind anyone in my car.

Okay, time for updates! I have done quite a lot lately.

My favorite new addition to my car is my AWE Intake. You can read my review (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...iew-Pictures-D) but the overall gist is that I am really happy with it. I can notice an increase in engine noise and only supercharger whine while WOT, which is exactly what I wanted.

The other thing that I did around xmas was hardwire my Valentine 1 radar detector. This proved to be a relatively easy task except for not being able to find my 13mm wrench. I did do one interesting thing also, I shimmed the lead below to fit over the ground rather than wrapping exposed cables around the bolt and then tightening the nut. It was an easy crimp/shim job that made for a very clean and happy result. The V1 already has 2.5 saves (the half is because I saw the cop at exactly the same time it went of)

In addition to those 2, I finally took some pictures of the headlight and taillight tint that I did forever ago. I could not be happier with how it is lasting and the overall quality. During the day, all you can tell is that the red on the taillights is not the main focus of the rear end and there really isn't a huge difference in the headlights, but at night, I think it makes the car. The back end looks stealth and mean and there is a much larger emphasis on the color of the car because the lights now blend in. See for yourself though.

The last thing that I have done recently is installed an RS6 shift knob and the RS5 pedals. I am sorry I don't have any pics of the pedals but I will try to get one soon. I am very happy with both though. the shift knob is much more comfortable to hold and the perforated leather is a nice texture over the stock knob. The pedals is what really changed the look and feel of the interior for me though. I have been in/driven tons of cars and the pedals is always something I look at. Even the Merc C300 has aluminum pedals for crying in the soup :P I think that this car deserves the beauty of some nice pedals and love the way mine look.

And of course, I swapped out the V6T for the SC badges

    Meteor gray is too awesome.
i think the black optics grille would look great especially with the tinted headlights.

The headlights look out of place to me, for some reason, but the rears are definitely nice on meteor!

Nice modding man! Now you should take the headlights apart and black the amber! haha, I just did mine.
