Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just watching some videos on you tube and I noticed that this B5 S4 with a dual intake.
I'm wondering if anyone else did this and what the response is.
I could not find any other info about it.

not on stock engine management. our cars use a MAFS so youd need megasquirt or 034's efi setup to switch over to a MAP sensor

actually you could do it but it would really be a waste. There is a product you can buy called maf splitter or maf joiner. Basically it takes the avg of the voltage between 2 mafs (so yes you would need to buy another maf as well) and then avgs them and sends one signal back to the ecu. This is less than ideal since you may have a leak or faulty sensor in 1 and it may still avg them as if both were perfect.

How is that cold air? The inlet piping is touching what appears to be the wastegate. There's no heat shielding anywhere.

It is entirely possible to run a mafless set up on our cars using just the MAP sensor instead, although you would need a custom tune by someone that really knows what their doing and in your case its not worth it.

Pretty sure GURUMAN also had a similar setup..

When you get turbos that big and have all that custom plumbing, then get that intake setup!

Yes. They fastest cars with the biggest turbos run mafless and have dual intakes and no MAFs.

That being said. It is entirely possible to do it on a stock car.

00+ A4's run on just the MAP all day. no reason an S4 can't (on stock management) the downfall is that with dual intakes and no MAF, every sensor is more important, to the point where if one starts to fail (say an 02) your car will run like shit.

That may not deter you. fine. Buy a MAF splitter and buy another maf, you get the badass look, and dont have to spend 2G's+ on RS4 upper intake shit. Or get a tuner that is OK with tuning a MAFless car, Im pretty sure VAST can (and have done) it.

it seems to me, that because this hasnt be tried and proven that everyone says its a dumb idea, but I think buying RS4 upper intake parts vs. experimenting with MAFless or Dual MAFs, not buying Rs4 parts may be a more cost effective option, that is if it actually works. I havent seen a single car that is not on stand alone, not running a maf (or two mafs for that matter)

They arent trying to get cold air they are trying to eliminate restriction. The champion racing speedvision GT b5 s4 runs the same way using a pectol stand alone system.

Does cold air really make that much of a difference the turbos are jus going to heat it right back up, thats what the big ass smic's are for right?

Its all about the restriction not the cold air (or lack there of). I think it would be very beneficial to run a maffless set up on these cars with some custom inlets with just a filter on the end. I'd imagine on a K04 car and a proper custom tune you could see some pretty considerable gains. This is something I plan on talking to Jason at AMD about when I get my K04s on. There are a lot of DBW 1.8Ts that run a maffless set up with no issues on the stock ME7 ECU.
