Seafoam has been said to eat up seals but I have never had a problem. other than that after you do it just change your spark plugs cause it could cause them to foul up.

try auto rx as well... stuff works good. Use sea foam for gas tank and to clean your valves and use the auto rx for your engine.

Really? My good friend is a Master Audi Tech, and they actually use seafoam at the dealership he works with. Its not some kind of crazy chem mixture, its just 100% petroleum... no magic there.

I just bought a bottle yesterday at autozone but the guy said I shouldn't use cause it seems like the last owner of my car didnt really take care of it. The sludge build up that is very noticable when you open the oil cap and the oil spots around the gasket areas shows that i could possible cause damage to the engine if I use it, thats what the guy said. What's your opinion about using it, cause I am kinda skeptical on using it now after what he said to me.

I used seafoam for the first time on my car around 130k and I only noticed improvements in the performance. No bad side effects.

the guy is right though. That sludge may dislodge and block the pickup tube or worse actually seize the motor depending on the intensity of the issue.
If it's visible when you take the cap off (which is bad ), get an oil pressure gauge hooked up at the very least.

If you have a serious amount of sludge, I'd suggest using Auto RX, dropping the oil-pan and cleaning both the oil pan and the pick-up tube, followed by another short cycle of oil and Auto RX. Seafoaming the car should be the least of your worries if it's really bad, although, I wouldn't hold your Autozone counter-jockey to the highest standard.

I think that I am going to use the Auto RX and drop the pan out and take the head off to do some cleaning. I came across this link where the guy did not change his oil for 60K on his bimmer and did exactly that and it worked wonders for him so he said. Its worth the try. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1281659 thats the link for you guys that didnt see it yet.

you have a problem with your engine? then why do you think you need it? if it ain't broke don't fix it. if you think you have a problem, maybe you should have been running good oil from the first place.

no it isn't. on older cars it causes seals to fail because the seals after years are either enlarged or brittle that the seafoam causes issues.

if you really wanted to clean your engine, drain your oil and install light weight ATF. that stuff has so many detergents in it it'll get your engine spotless. then again i'm not the one telling you to put ATF or seafoam in your car either.

there is no excuse for proper maintenance. if you switch over to a high quality synthetic, that in itself will clean your engine.

i'd probably use atf in the engine before seafoam. but seafoam id use for the comustion chambers and intake manifold.

Seafoam is good an bad... I have a friend who used it on his A4 with great results, another friend on his B5 S4 and it was great... I used it on my A4 1.8t and my car wouldnt start for days. It ended up finished off my already worn to death piston rings... Now the motor is being rebuilt. So it can be great. But use with care.

I ordered Auto RX and going to try that out it seems to be a safer alternative. I went back to the dealer I bought the car from and asked him about the build up of gunk and he told me to use ATF also. At this point I regret buying this car cause of all the problems I been dealing with it and trying to bring it back up to par.

its likely that the seafoam cleaned out all of the oil in the porous surface of the cylinders thereby lowering your compression due to piston rings getting a bad seal. that is why you sometimes hear people say that its better to leave an old engine dirty (even thought that's not really true. its better to just take good care of it in the first place.)
