Is there a manual release for the fuel lid?

Im waiting for my new locking pump to be delivered, and my doors are unlocked and the fuel door is stuck on lock. I am low on gas and I just realized that the pump actually stopped working. What I have been doing was to take out and put in the fuse that controls the locking pump to control the windows and the locks.

Is there a way to manually open the fuel door from the trunk? Or am I stuck leaving it parked until it comes in?

theres a little bar that holds the fuel door closed when the car is locked. You would never know it was there unluess you tried to fill up with the car locked.

To the O/P, i kinda think your screwed. Maybe under the carpet in the trunk.

if you pull back the carpet, there is a plastic handle that you pull to open the fuel door. it is intended for this exact reason.

Must be you. It definitely exists. White plastic clip that holds the rod that locks the fuel cover. I believe there is a red vacuum tube running to it. Pull it back. I had the same issue when my central locking pump died. Called up the dealer, and they told me about it.

Yep..it's there on my 1998 A4 Quattro as well. Mind you, both donraja84 and I have Canadian model cars.

Sometimes there are slight differences between Canadian and US market vehicles ( Applies to all manufacturers of cars and light trucks ).

There is an emergency opening procedure in the owners manual, which shows you how to manually slide the vacuum operated pin that locks the gas fill door. It's not a release handle per se, but it will open up the door for you. Not sure how different it is in Canada.

It is in the trunk on the passenger side?

yeah, on the passenger side. Open your fuel cover and see if you see a metal rod that comes out when the doors are unlocked, and goes in when the doors are locked. If you do, then this is the rod connected to the white clip. If you followed the rod from the fuel cover into the trunk behind the carpet, you should see a white plastic clip latched into the metal....maybe i'll take a pic!

Metal Rod on the white plastic right above the central locking pump (to give you an idea of the location):
